Selection Procedures

USATF will field a team composed of no more than 34 athletes for the 2005 IAAF World Youth Championships in Marrakech, Morocco. Athletes will be selected based on a number of criteria, including the following:

Athletes must be between the ages of 15-17 (with a required year of birth: 1988, 1989, or 1990).
Athletes must compete in one of the following 2004 USATF meets to be placed in the Selection Pool:
2004 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships
2004 USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships
2004 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships
Selection Pool Athletes must achieve an IAAF qualifying standard in his/her respective event(s) during the qualifying period.

NOTE: A qualifying standard by itself does not automatically place an athlete on the team. Only those athletes who meet or better the IAAF standard with a mark that will rank them as a potential finalist at the IAAF World Youth Championships will be selected.
Athletes must be 2005 members of USATF, citizens of the United States, and eligible to represent the U.S. in international competition. See USATF Rules and Regulations for more information and exceptions.
USATF reserves the right to modify athlete selections and team size based upon proof of fitness in 2005. Final team selections will be made by USATF at the discretion of the selection committee.
