Lakeisha Lawson (Victor Valley HS)
Senior UNLV Bound Answers some Questions
Another star held back from Section-Level
competition with injury in 2005!!

Off to a super start in 2005, which included a fine 12.06 clocking in finishing second to Janice Nsor in late March's Mt. Carmel Invite in San Diego, Lakeisha Lawson of Victor Valley HS was another top statewide athelte who fell to injury problems that did not heal come championship meet time.

Pleasingly, she has signed with UNLV and for sure will be in great shape next year for some good running for the nearby school with a quality program!

Best of Luck, and as we indicate below, the big come-backs are the best!!

1) Briefly tell us how the start to your senior track season has gone?

The start of my track season went really well I was training really hard I was going to the gym as well as conditioning but then I strained my hamstring tried to rush back and strained it again.

2) What is your state of mind as we go through League and into the Southern Section meets?

My state of mind right now is on getting 100% healthy and to start back training again to get ready for club track. And I also think southern section is one of the toughest sections to compete in.

3) What has been the funnest part of high school track and field for you?

The funniest thing in track to me is watching the new people do ply-o's because a lot of the new people are uncoordinated. Even some of the veterans are uncoordinated.

4) If you had to do your high school athletic career again, what would you change?

If I could do it again I would have taken track more seriously when I was younger and I would of ran club a whole lot sooner and I would also change the school I go to I would of transfered to Rancho like i planned to.

5) What is the strangest weather situation you have faced in the Victorville area during your prep career in practice or in a meet (know it blows a tad out your way)?

The strangest weather I've ever ran in is one day we were at practice my sophomore year and it was really windy and it was raining of and on and we had to do parachutes and one of my teammates almost flew away because its was so windy, and a boy from my team was running in place because the wind was so strong and i blew from lane 1 to 9.

6) What other sports have you been involved with at the high school level or while you were growing up and how serious were you at them?

The only other sport I ever played was basketball. I was kind of serious about it until I started running track and realized that I was better at track.

7) Do you have time for any other activities at school in addition to sports and studies? Explain---

Before I did have time for other activities when I wasn't as dedicated but now that track surrounds most of my life other activities are very limited and you have to find time to study because a lot of time your really tired.

8) Favorite High School Teacher and why?

Mr. Conde he teaches physics because he is really funny and made is class fun and he cared about his students and what was going on in their lives and he does anything he can to help you excel and Mr. Kniss my English because he made me actually like English and thats my worst subject and he is a down to earth person.

9) What advice would you have for a first year track and field athlete who is competing in the sprint events?

The advice I would give to rookies is to stay focused and to listen to your coach and just because your young you shouldn't be intimidated by older people because your just as good as they are. And to take the SAT"S very seriously and keep their grades up and work hard everyday because it pays off in the end and to always believe in yourself.

Best of Luck - the big comeback's are always the best!!
