High Jump Prodigy Headed to The Beach
Prep Star Tutored by Former All-American Dwight Stones

May 11, 2005

LONG BEACH, CA-- Mount Carmel high jumper Lindsay Whetstine (San Diego) has a lot of ties to Long Beach State. It's only natural she'd sign a National Letter of Intent. Whetsine, who ranks fourth in the state in the high jump (5'8.25"), was tutored by world record holder Dwight Stones and was the the recipient of the Ramona Pagel Award. Both were former 49er greats.

"Lindsay is a tenacious competitor and brings the determination we like to see from an athlete," said
Head Coach Andy Sythe. "She has all the physical and mental ability to become a premier collegiate jumper on the national level. We are excited to have Lindsay join our program next season and we look forward to seeing her finish out her stellar high school career with another state championship appearance."

Whetstine has qualified for the state meet in each of the last three years, and is a three-time CIF San Diego Section Champion. Whetstine has cleared 5'8" four times this season and has lost just six meets her
entire prep career. Whetstine was the 2004 recipient of the Ramona Pagel Award given to the outstanding
female field event athlete in the CIF San Diego Section.
