Carly Whitney (Calaveras, San Andreas)
Talks Track and the Future!!

Calaveras HS star Carly Whitney just signed with Sacramento State and has that decision out of the way, with the 18-7 Long Jumper (among the state's top fifteen in this very competitive event) now concentrating on the rest of what should be a very fine senior spring track and field season. She took time out from her schedule to talk a bit about her career, this season, goals, and the advice that rookies to the sport seem to always appreciate
Thanks Carly - Best of Luck

1) Briefly summarize how your senior track and field season has gone so far--
So far my season has been awesome, I'm running faster and jumping farther than I would have thought during last year's season. I have been PRing and setting records every week.

2) What has been the highlight of your track and field career at the prep level so far?
Probably when I jumped my 18'7" at a dual meet, I had been waiting for my 18 foot jump for awhile and it happened on my first jump with my new jump shoes.

3) What track and field events have you competed in for your team during your prep career?
Freshman year: 100HH, long jump, high jump, 400m relay
Sophomore year: 100HH, long jump, 400m relay, 1600m relay, high jump
Junior year: 300H, long jump, 400m relay, 1600m relay
Senior year: 100m, 200m, long jump, 400m relay
I've also run the 400m a few times

4) Any other sports while growing up or along the way as a high-schooler?
No other sports in high school but before that I played baseball for a long time, softball for a few years, and basket ball

5) What are some of your goals for this spring in the sport?
My goal is to make it to the state meet in the long jump and jump in the 19s, i also want to make it as far as i can in the 100m and 200m, hopefully state meet in them as well

6) What advice would you offer someone new to the sport and concentrating on the Long Jump event this season?
I would tell them that they need to make goals for the distances they want to reach and visualize everything and that they picked a great event!
