Ryan Whiting (Central Dauphin, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania) Chases 70’ in Shot Put - Looks to extend 195 foot PR in Discus!

One of the super competitors in the nation this winter indoor season who will be attending the Arcadia Invitational was Ryan Whiting from Pennsylvania, with the 6-3 260 pound star powering the iron ball out to 68-11.25 this undercover season while winning the Pennsylvania State Indoor Championships. He went on to win the Nike Indoor Championships in mid-March at 65-01.25. His indoor PR is the #11 on the prep all-time indoor list. With a Discus best of 195-04 last year when his Shot Put PR was back in the 65 foot range, Ryan will continue the great history of top weight athletes who have thrown in the Arcadia Invitational. With the facility undergoing renovation with an all-weather football field over the summer and end zone areas now given over to jumping events, Ryan will lead the charge to set a “Bull Ring” record, with the new facility Shot Put area given that name by track staff at Arcadia.

With no meets under 65 indoors this winter, Ryan showed super consistency in his putting, and indicated in a mid-winter interview with Penn Track’s Don Rich that his Discus goal this spring is “over 220!” With the Arcadia Discus facility the one in which the last two National Interscholastic Federation Records have been set--Kami Keshmiri’s 224-03 from 1987 and Niklas Arrhenius’s unbelievable 234-03 from 2001, it might be worth wandering over for that 4:00 PM event prior to the 6:15 PM Shot Put action. Californians be ready! The nation's best are on the way!!!

One of many super stars we will be featuring in the next week leading up to the April 8-9th Arcadia Invitational!
