Brittany Daniels (Tracy Flyers,
Brittany Daniels had a weekend at the Simplot Indoor Games at Pocatello, Idaho that included US Prep History's greatest ever day of horizontal jumping! The Tracy area twelfth grader took the Long Jump against the greatest field ever gathered (first time three 20-06 or better prep jumpers met in the same competition - Shana Woods and Sarah Matthews along with Brittany) with a 20-05 California State All-Time HS Best indoors, making her the equal #6 All-Time US Prep indoors in that event. She came back with a breath-taking 43-05 Triple Jump win, the #2 mark in US History among preps, only behind Juliana Yendork (Walnut, Ca) from 1991 43-11.5 on the All-Time State and National Lists. No prep in US History has put together such a quality day of indoor horizontal jumping!! Brittany is in action this weekend at the US Senior National Championships in Boston, with action there a level she is used to with her ninth place from last summer in the Olympic Trials in the Triple Jump. She did set the National Outdoor Best ever for US Preps in the three-leap event with her 44-11.75 win at the US Junior Nationals in June. It will be fun to look forward to the results from this weekend!! We caught up with Brittany after she finished duties for her team, which included 4x200 relay action in Idaho and asked her about her jumping-- DyeStatCal - What are your thoughts on your fine weekend of running and jumping, that included Long Jump (20-05) and Triple Jump (43-05) wins? Daniels - "It was good and exciting. I had great competition, and so I had a good time, and ended my career here at the Simplot Games with good efforts." DyeStatCal - Did you have any goals in mind distance-wise this weekend for your jumps? Daniels - "I wanted to hit 43-high or 44 feet in the Triple Jump, and 20 feet, 20 feet high in that range for the Long Jump today." DyeStatCal - How close to perfect was the 43-05 Triple Jump today? Daniels - "I don't really know. I have not talked to my coach yet. I had to go run the 4x200 relay right after that and was in kind of a hurry." DyeStatCal - Where do you go from here this indoor season? Daniels - "I plan on going to compete in New York (National Scholastic Indoor Championships), and am jumping at Boston in the Senior Nationals." DyeStatCal - What are your plans for the end of the outdoor season and summer this year? Do you plan on attending the outdoor Senior Nationals this year? Daniels - "I guess I'll go to the senior Nationals outdoor this year, I haven't really given thought that far ahead yet." DyeStatCal - How close are you to making a college decision? Daniels - "I'm not sure yet where I will be going. I will probably decide in April." DyeStatCal - So are you happy with your weekend's performances? Daniels - "I'm very happy with how I did."
