In a very surprising performance Jeneba Tarmoh (Unat, Mt. Pleasant HS, San Jose), last year a League Champ as a frosh athlete with 12.08 (12.07w) 100m and 25.35 (24.90w) 200m bests, burst forth at the Silver State Invitational in Reno, Nevada with a nation-leading 24.45 200m clocking! Coach Steve Nelson indicated that the young star had paid the price in the weight room this fall along with her volleyball playing, with some big things looked forward to this 2005 year! Welcome another super young sprinter to the California mix, with the Golden State continuing to crank out quality fields in the young ladies' sprint events with amazing depth. The season of this young Central Coast Section star certainly deserves close watching over the next few months!

Best of Luck, and thanks for taking the time to talk with us

1) What was your reaction to your nation-leading 200m effort in the
Silver State Meet in Reno this past weekend?

I was shocked I didn't know what to think or what to say.

2) How confident were you of your ability to run a really fast time
heading into last weekend?

I was really confident mainly because I knew why I was going to Reno and
what I wanted to accomplish.

3) How has your preparation until this time of year gone compared to
last that seems to make you so much faster in only January?

My preparation was about the same, but the difference between last year
and this year is that this year I am more focused on improving.

4) What are some of your thoughts as you look ahead to the spring season
with the always-competitive group of sprinters you will face from around
the State this coming season?

The only thing going through my head right now is just to focus on myself,
I really dont want to worry about the other athletes beacause im trying to
improve my time.

5) What other sports have you been involved with along the way while
growing up (or are still involved with)?

I've just been playing volleyball for the past 3 years during the
volleyball seasons.

6) How do you spend your time outside of sports - what are some of  your
other interests?

Well when I'm not at the track I like to go to the movies,to the mall and
just shop, or hang out with my friend or just some alone time.

7) Do you have any career aspirations as of yet?

I want to be a fashion designer.

8) What advice would you have to someone who is just coming out for
Track and Field and competing in the sprint events?

It all takes time, Rome wasn't built in a day. You will only really
succeed if you want to.
