Cross country season is over and now it is time to focus on track, and
what a great way for distance coaches to get started by having a chance
to hear the best elite and high school distance coaches in the nation speak.

Bob Larsen, the former great UCLA coach and coach of Olympic silver
medalist, Meb Keflezighi, will be speaking in two one hour sessions at
the AAF Advanced Level clinic to be held on Saturday, January 29th at
Mt. SAC College.

It is certainly hard to find a coach who has equaled the success that
Coach Larsen has had at virtually every level: high school through
community college and university and all the way to the Olympic
Games--don’t miss this opportunity to hear him speak.

Fresh from their back-to-back State Division I Championship seasons with
Ventura High School, Coaches Bill Tokar and Ken Reeves will be
presenting at the AAF Beginning/Intermediate Level 1 Clinic on Saturday,
January 15, at Mt. SAC.

Not only will Bill and Ken be presenting two hours in the morning and
two hours in the afternoon on understanding basic distance training
philosophy, they will also be doing a special one hour session devoted
to transitioning from cross country to track and from track to cross
country.

And in San Diego, long time successful coaches Mike Cummings and Ian
Cumming will be teaming up with the fine young coach from El Camino, Tom
Kloos, to present four full hours of distance training at the AAF
Beginning/Intermediate Level 1 Clinic on Saturday, February 12, at
Westview High School.

And, finally, at all three clinics, Coach Kloos, who has also been one
of America’s top steepechasers over the past several years, will be
doing a special session on how to introduce training for high school
runners to properly prepare for the steeplechase event.

If you are a distance coach—head coach or assistant—you need to be at
one or more of these clinics this winter. Those of you who have attended
in the past know how much is gained in not only the interaction during
the official clinic sessions but also between and after sessions and in
the months following.

All three of these clinics are absolutely free to all coaches and
interested adults who would like to attend. You can get all clinic
information including each clinic’s agenda and full line-up of speakers
or register on line or download a registration form for any one of the
three clinics at our web site www.aafla.org - select Coaching Education
– then AAF Coaching Clinics.

If you have any questions, you may contact Tim O’Rourke via e-mail
[email protected] or call 626-258-5330 or Jacqueline Hansen via
e-mail [email protected] or call (323) 730-4618.

All three clinics also have several hours of specific sessions devoted
to every single track and field event area so start getting all your
track coaches excited about their events and come to these great clinics
as a group.
