Pass the word...the 5th annual HOOTIE 5K, a low tech, big fun road race will be run this saturday morning in conjunction with the Olympic Track and field Trials...this "race" is referred to as a back-in-the-day 5K with a few special twists (i.e , the Eddy Helleybuck award, the first naked runner award and whatever we deem inportant on "race" day...in the past, the Hootie has drawn out many a way way past their prime Olympians and national champions as both competitors and officials (James Robinson is our official guest starter this year, taking over from the role John Drummond held last year) ...awards tend to generally be of the drinkable kind...NOTE THAT THIS YEAR'S RACE IS A BENEFIT FOR THE WELCH FAMILY (go to dyestatcal.com for details)...the Welch's, a track and field family (Jack a 1:56 800 kid) were in a terrible automobile accident about 2 weeks ago...the five family members were all seriously injured and Jack remains in a coma...am told that they had no insurance and are in desparate need of your financial assistance...while HOOTIE has never had an entry fee in the past, this year we will request an entry donation of $1 - $100 (whatever you can spare) for the Welchs...regardless of whether you can make the race or not, your assistance for fallen track & field brethren is much appreciated at:
