The AAF Advanced
Track & Field Clinic, which will be held this Saturday, January 24th,
is not only the absolute biggest and best Track & Field Clinic in
California (featuring 40 different sessions), it is absolutely free to
all coaches and interested adults who want to attend.
More than 300 coaches are
expected to attend the clinic, which will be held at the home of Track
& Field in Southern California--Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut--beginning
with registration at 8:00 AM and the opening keynote session at 9:00 AM,
“The Critical Zone Concept In All Track & Field Events”,
delivered by Brooks Johnson, Director of the USA Track & Field Olympic
Training Center.
Not only will there be several speciality offerings among the
40 sessions offered during the day in
areas such as “Hands On Taping and Injury Prevention”, “Video
Analysis”, and “Developing Maximum Velocity”,
but there will also be up to five full hours of clinic sessions
specifically devoted to each of the seven broad event areas of track and
field: sprints, hurdles, distances, throws,
horizontal jumps, high jump and pole vault.
The AAF's outstanding 437-page spiral-bound Track & Field Coaching
Manual
is given FREE to each coach attending the duration of this great one-day
clinic!
Coaches may choose one
strand such as Sprints or Throws and attend sessions all day in only that
one area or they may pick and choose throughout the day.
- Strand 1-Sprints-Six
separate sessions
Presenters: Brooks Johnson-USATF Olympic Training Center Director; Todd

- Strand 2-Hurdles-four 1:10 minute separate

Presenters: Tonie Campbell-Three time USA Olympian; Gayle Watkins-former
USA top ten ranked hurdler, coach at five time state champions, Mt.
SAC
- Strand 3-Distances-four
1:10 minute separate sessions
Presenters: Jim Hunt-Former coach at Humboldt State who has been an
innovator in distance training methods has produced 64 All-Americans
and a national championship team; Steve Boaz-San Luis Obispo High School
Coach “2003 California State Division 3 State Champions”;
Joe Rubio-two time Olympic Trials Qualifier, elite level coach.
- Strand 4-Throws-four 1:10 minute separate
sessions
Presenters: Matt Godbehere-NCAA national champion in shot put and four
time NCAA All-American; John Amneus-Olympic Trials qualifier, has coached
all levels from high school to NCAA Division 1
- Strand 5-High Jump-four
1:10 minute separate sessions
Presenters: John Tansley-Wrote the “Flop Book”, represents
all coaches in the USA to the International Coaches Association and
has spoken at Olympic Games and World Track and Field Championships,
several ITFCA Congresses, as well at many, many foreign countries, has
coached 15 jumpers over 7’ and his 6’9” high school
sophomore will soon become number 16; Mo Haneef- a fixture in USATF
in Southern California for decades, expert in all jump areas.
- Strand 6-Long Jump/Triple
Jump-four 1:10 minute separate sessions
Presenters: Larry Myricks-Former World Cup Champion, Olympian, National
Champion; Dr. Ernie Gregoire-2000 USA Olympic team coach.
- Strand 7-Pole Vault-four 1:10 minute separate
sessions
Presenters: Brian Yokoyama-Pole vault coach innovator, one of the driving
forces in the event in the country; Dennis McClanahan-has a competitor
in the state meet for 25 consecutive years.
- Lecture Options-Injury Prevention-two 1:10
minute sessions
Presenter: Andy Paulin-head trainer at Mt. San Antonio College
- Lecture Options Video Analysis-two 1:10
minute sessions
Presenter: Robert MacKenzie-jumps coach and The Webb Schools-has used
the analysis methods presented here in his coaching of several 7 foot
high jumpers and the 2000 New York State Class B championship team.
He and his students perform jump research using VideoPoint analysis
and publish their results in Track Coach magazine.
Once again, this entire clinic
is presented absolutely free to all coaches and interested adults who
would like to attend. Furthermore, each coach who pre-registers at our
web site www.aafla.org will receive at the clinic a free gift from Venue
Sports & SpringCo, a copy of the AAF Track & Field Coaching manual,
and a certificate of completion.
