“Siblings’ Faith – all that’s left”

Norwalk – Six Higgins children lost mom, dad in last six months

Norwalk – Chalres Higgins Jr. has lost his mother and father in the last three months and soon may lost his five siblings to the courts—but he hasn’t lost his faith in God.

The 21 year old whose mother died of breast cancer three months ago lost his father to apparent heart failure due to complications from diabetes, Monday.

Now he finds himself the patriarch of a family that includes four additional brothers and a teenage sister.

“We’re going to make it. I’m not worried about anything. I just gotta have faith in God, he’ll put us on the right path,” the soft-spoken young man bold CBS2.

The six members of the Higgins family, who are in high school or of college age, live in a sparsely decorated, three bedroom apartment. Clothes hang from a ceiling fan that makes do as a closet.

The siblings have no transportation and few possessions. With everyone in school, there is no breadwinner to pay the bills.

Nevertheless, Charles believes God will “bless us along down the road, big time.”

Some neighbors are already trying to help.

“Everyone loved them. And when you find out, you know, like sometimes this happens to such good people, you want to help them.” Michelle Gunderson told Channel 2.

“These are really good kids. It’s just heartbreaking,” added churchgoer Loki Lani.

An account has been set upfor the Higgins Six at Downey Savings. Checks should be made out to “Charles Higgins.”

The siblings are also looking for a place to live, and could use household items. To contribute contract Pastor Rex Herndon of the Assembly of God Church in Norwalk, (562) 864-7478.
