(right) over 20 years ago as a La Canada HS prep Andy Diconti was one of the nation's finest prep distance runners, with a 3:50.8 1500 best, 4:10.0 (converted) mile, and 8:57.42 (converted) 2 mile. He was the California 3200m champ his senior year 1980 season.

A group of Southern California runners, most home-grown talent who have continued in their sport into their 40's, dominated the Master's division of the recent USA National Cross-Country Championships, held Feburary 7-8 in Indianapolis under some challenging weather conditions. Pete Magill, who along with Andy Diconti, were stars for Coach Pat Logan, a legendary Southern California prep coach at La Canada HS, who has continued his coaching in Washington State after retirement himself, placed 1st and 19th as runners #1 and #7 for the Team group, with Brad Jensen, a Glendale HS/Glendale CC, and Long Beach State runner, from the same general area. Magill, amazingly, went to Glendale CC, and placed second in the State CC 5k as a 34 year old a few years back! Diconti went to Cal Poly/SLO and BYU in the early 80's, and is back coaching at his former high school La Canada. David Olds, who attended College in the east, is a coach at Crossroads HS in Santa Monica. Angel Roman was a top runner at Long Beach CC in Track and Cross-Country. Andrew Atkeson, a local resident, is from the east also, and attended Yale (it turns not, not Cornell--ran in college against Olds, then mored to his So Cal neighborhood as UCLA prof!). Dave Parsel was a state meet placer at Orange Coast CC while at that level a couple of decades back, with Rich Burns from the greater San Fernando Valley area, and Steve Moreno the team manager from Orange County!!

Congrats and continued super running for this group that shows the miles just keep on coming!!
