USA Track & Field Attempts to cope with current drug crisis in sport! In case you have not been paying close attention, USA Track & Field, the national governing body of the sport, has been taking some monster hits lately that may affect its ability to do business. Items like a $3 million cutback in funds from the United States Olympic Committee (out of a $15 million operating budget), and $1 million to fight a drug case against the IAAF (the world International governing body of the sport), have obviously affected the body dearly. Interestingly, the USATF appears to have won the court case, in which they did not have to identify a 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist who had tested positive for drugs "because of confidentiality" issues, which many outside the US found "uncomprehensible." Tough times for our sport at the Olympic level!! LA Times article on USOC Cutback to USATF (may require registration, but worth it) European slant on the court ruling - they do not seem too happy with our current state on all this!!
