Gatorade Athlete of the Year Luncheon

Allyson Felix, who recently graduated with honors from Los Angeles Baptist HS, smiles with her mom and dad (Marlean and Paul) once the luncheon was completed.

Allyson Felix, the teen who has set the track and field world on fire (she's still fastest on the planet over 200 meters this spring), shares the stage with boys' national honoree LeBron James of Ohio,  the basketball phenom who was recently selected #1 in the NBA Draft right out of high school and signed a $90 million endorsement deal with Nike to go along with endorsement packages with Gatorade/Pepsi, Daimler Chrysler, and others -- all totalling in excess of $150 million! You should have seen the perimeter of his watch sparkling away in that dark banquet room - definitely not cubic zirconia, we'd say!

Allyson and LeBron share another smile. In a footrace, we'd take Allyson. In a test of vertical leaps, we'd take Allyson too -- since LeBron is weighted down by heavy cash these days!

The very chic Club One-Seven in Hollywood (part of the Kodak Theatre Complex) was the site for this terrific awards event, with the 10 finalist honorees from around the nation proudly displayed on the billboard that served as the backdrop for the stage. ESPN SportsCenter anchor Stuart Scott was the guest emcee for the event, with basketball stars Lisa Leslie and Baron Davis serving as guest athletes in attendance. Both were Gatorade honorees in HS.

Kerron Clement (La Porte HS, TX) and Allyson Felix smile for the camera after headlining the nation this year as the track and field honorees. Allyson then won the overall honor for Gatorade National High School Athlete of the Year as well! Congratulations, Allyson!!!
