Congratulations are in order! Email below sent to us by Yong-Sung's dad, Bento...
Hi, Rich. Just a quick report to let you know that Yong-Sung was blessed in marriage in Korea on Sunday, July 13, to his fiancee, Lan Tsubata of Maryland. It was a beautiful event in a large domed sports arena with several thousand couples and their family and friends. Attached is a beautiful wedding photo of Yong-Sung and Lan. The motto for the marriage blessing ceremony was" World Peace Through Ideal Families". The day before the marriage ceremony, on Sat., July 12, Yong-Sung ran in the "Peace Run", a 5K road race featuring some 2000 runners, of which only about 30 were serious competitors. Yong-Sung came in 3rd place to 2 Jordanians (ages 20 & 21) who took 1st and 2nd. Finishing after Yong-Sung were another Jordanian, a Russian, a Mongolian and a Kenyan. It was hard to time it as it wasn't a true 5K. The race began with a 3/4 lap in the stadium that exited out into the streets following a police car then returned back to the stadium for a final 150 meter straightaway to the finish line. The race was part of the Interreligious Peace Sports Festival which, like the Olympics, featured several sports, including basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, ping-pong, track & field and more. Some 825 athletes competed from more than 35 countries. The plan is for this sports festival to be held each year. That's a quick update. Yong-Sung is healthy and running well. He's training at 9 miles a day at a good clip, and will seek out various road races while he attends Chabot College, a local JC here in nearby Hayward. (He won't run at Chabot so as to protect his eligibility in the event he transfers to a major college after his freshman year). I'll keep you posted. All the best. Bento
