94-degree heat, but a blazing finishing kick, too!

        Pete Janson (Highands, TX) turned some heads late in the season when he beat favored Leonel Manzano at the Texas state meet for 1600m, and he was quite content to set the early pace here.

 

         Approaching 700 meters into the race, however, it was Washington's Carl Moe (Auburn Riverside HS) who had the lead well in hand, with Kentucky miling ace Bobby Curtis (face barely visible on left side of picture) in tow, and Janson drifting back to third.
