Welcome to the 84th annual Russell Cup.
The Russell Cup is the oldest high school track & field meet in California, predating even the state championships. First conducted in 1913, the Russell Cup holds a tradition of high quality performances. The event has continued through the years with the only interruptions coming in war years.
Although limited to small school, mostly division IV enrollment levels, many consider the Russell Cup to be one of the finest high school track & field invitationals in the state. The 2003 event will hold to the tradition of quality as once again the entry list is loaded with top quality athletes. A small schools meet? The 84th edition Russell Cup is no small affair with 34 schools and in excess of 1,000 athletes attending.
Crespi is the favorite for the boys team title, with St Joseph, St Bonaventure, Ork Park and host carpinteria fighting for second. The girls race is not as clearly defined with defending champion St Joseph in a battle with La Salle, Flintridge Prep and North Coast Section power Piedmont.
