Keflezighi, Drossin to defend USA 15 km titles

Deena Drossin (former Agoura HS) and Meb Keflezighi (former San Diego HS) will defend their USA 15 km titles Saturday, March 8, at the Gate River Run in Jacksonville, Florida.

Last year Drossin, three-peated with an American record (48:12) and can make history if she becomes the first U.S. woman or man to win four consecutive USA 15 km road titles. Keflezighi, 27, returns for a
possible three-peat after he defended his title last year in 42:48 the fourth fastest American all-time.

For the tenth consecutive year, the Gate River Run 15K will host the USA Championships with a competitive U.S. field including other top American distance runners including Abdi Abdirahman, Nick Rogers, Marla Runyan, Colleen De Reuck and Amy Rudolph. In addition to national road titles,
athletes will also vie for a $47,000 championship purse ($10,000 for the national champion) and USA Running Circuit points.

The guaranteed USA Championship prize purse totals $47,000 and goes ten-deep: $10,000, $4000, $3000, $2000, $1000, $900, $800, $700, $600 and $500. The Gate River Run also offers bonuses for course, U.S. and world records ($3000, $3000 and $10,000 cumulative respectively).

The Gate River Run part of the 2003 USA Running Circuit, a USA Track & Field road series that features USA Championships from the 5K to the marathon and offers over $340,000 in prize money and a $25,000 grand prix. Per USARC race, the first ten U.S. runners earn points (15 for
first, 12 for second, 10 for third, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1) with a final $12,500 grand prix purse ($6000, $4000 and $2500) for the top three men and women.

The Gate River Run, will be shown on a live webcast by WJXT TV-4 on race day March 8 starting at 8:00 a.m. The webcast will feature two hours of coverage from the finish line. Watch the webcast at:
