Voting Time for USATF Mascot - one week to sort out the possibilities!!!

USATF Voting Run-Off for Mascot

Three-way run-off to be held for USATF Mascot name

INDIANAPOLIS – Hold on to your hanging chads – the voting in USA Track &
Field’s mascot-naming competition was too close to call!

After more than 4,000 ballots were cast, “Spike” and “Tailwind” emerged as
the two front-runners in voting, which concluded January 21 online at USATF’
s Web site, www.usatf.org. A run-off to elect a clear winner was called on
Thursday by USATF CEO Craig Masback.

“My personal favorite, ZoomByU, didn’t make the cut,” Masback said, “but the
competition between Spike and Tailwind is compelling.”

The top two names won’t be alone on the ballot. The impressive showing by
“False Start” in the “just for fun” voting of names that didn’t make the
final cut was so strong that “False Start” has been added to the run-off.

Voting in the run-off between “Spike”, “Tailwind” and “False Start” will
begin at 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, January 23 at www.usatf.org.
Polling will close at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29. As previously
announced, the winning name will be unveiled at the first stop on USATF’s
2003 Indoor Golden Spike Tour, the adidas Boston Indoor Games on February 1.

Legal challenges and Supreme Court appeals of the voting results will not be
permitted.

Vote for the mascot - Thursday 2:00 PM Western time 1/23 through 8:59 pm Friday 1/29

Fans can get a glimpse of the newly named mascot – and a few world-class
athletes – by watching the live broadcast of the adidas Boston Indoor Games
from 6-7 p.m. on ESPN2 Saturday, February 1.
