AAF Track & Field Clinics, which once again will be presented free
for all coaches who would like to attend due to the great support of the
Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles.
Not only are all of the clinics presented free but also each coach who
completes the full day will receive a free copy on the 250 page AAF Track
& Field Coaching Manual-widely regarded as the finest coaching manual
available anywhere for high school track and field.
There will be two Level 1 clinics presented in January and February, where
not only will the basics of training and technique be covered in all seven
broad event areas but also additional sessions in will be offered general
weight training, relay success and “Hands-On Taping” and injury
prevention.
There will also be one Advanced Level clinic that will focus on in depth
advanced theory and techniques in every track and field area.
The two Level 1 clinics will be held at Mt. SAC College in Walnut on Saturday,
January 11, and Mt. Carmel High School near San Diego on February 8, and
the Advanced Hot Topics Clinic will be held at Mt. SAC College on Saturday,
January 25.
Not only will all clinics are absolutely free to all coaches who would
like to attend but also our exclusive AAF clinic vendor, Venue Sports,
will be presenting to the first 150 coaches who pre-register a great free
gift on the day of the clinic.
The Level 1 clinics will follow the same popular format that more than
500 coaches enjoyed last winter with a short opening keynote session for
all coaches beginning at 9:00 AM, followed by coaches having the choice
from 10:00 to 12:00 of attending one of nine separate sessions—one
for each broad event area: sprints, hurdles, distances, throws, high jump,
long and triple jump, pole vault—and special sessions for “Creating
Advanced Periodized Training Plans” and “Developing a Full
Track Program With Only One Paid Position”.
Beginning after lunch at 1:00 PM, all of the earlier morning sessions
will be repeated, except for the throws and distance sessions, which will
be continuations of the earlier sessions.
At 3:00 PM, all field sessions will be completed, and there will be one
final round of clinic sessions, which will feature a special injury prevention
lecture and “Hands On Taping” demonstrations with Andy Paulin,
head trainer at Mt. SAC College, as well as sessions on “Olympic
Lifting”, “Relay Success”, and “Organizing a Strength
Program Without Using a Weight Room”.
Although all lectures and sessions are updated every year, coaches who
previously attended an AAF clinic may choose to come for just the middle
portion of the clinic schedule for the field sessions to pick up expertise
in other event areas.
Ron Allice, who enjoyed unparalleled success while at Long Beach City
College before taking on the position of Director of Track and Field at
USC seven years ago and leading the Trojan women to a national championship
and the Trojan men to three of the past four Pac 10 Championships, will
deliver the keynote address at the Hot Topics Advanced Clinic on January
25.
Following the keynote, will be a wide variety of advanced sessions in
all areas.
Allice will do another session on relays.
Former world record holder in the pole vault, Jan Johnson, will do two
sessions on the vault; Larry Myricks, two tme World Cup Champion in the
long jump, will lead afternoon sessions in that event, and Dr. Ernie Gregoire,
2000 USA Olympic coach for the women’s horizontal jumps, will deliver
two sessions on the triple jump.
Robert Budke, whose Arroyo Grande throwers have enjoyed unparalleled success
over the past decade, will team with John Amneus for an entire day of
throwing sessions.
The distances will be covered by American record holder in the mile, Steve
Scott; UCLA men’s and women’s cross country and distance coach,
Eric Peterson; and coach of the 2001 state cross country champions at
Canyon High School, Dave DeLong.
Bob Coons of Bakersfield will talk about building a state championship
track and field team and about the aspects of developing a plan to bring
the average athlete along over four years so he can compete at the highest
level possible.
There will also be several advanced sessions on high jump, sprints, and
hurdles.
