YASMINE WHITE HEADS TO JAPAN

Yasmine White of Arcata HS, who was recently placed atop the DyeStatCal.com’s Division 4 preseason individual rankings, has a little work to do before her cross country season begins. Yasmine has a second sport, triathlon, in which she is rather accomplished. By virtue of her high finish at the Junior Nationals in August, Yasmine has earned a spot on the US National team which will head to Gamagori, Japan for the ITU Triathlon World Championships. Her race - with distances of 750 meter swim/20K ride/5K run - is on September 10th.

Yasmine, a senior, was the number #1 Youth Girl (13-15) triathlete in America in 2004 as ranked by USA Triathlon. She was the winner of the 2004 National Championships in Arkansas. This year she hasn’t slowed up at all. Despite being brand new in the Junior (16-19) age group, Yasmine is flirting with All-America status again. In fact, due to her high finish at the US National Championships in Bellingham (3rd overall, 2nd American), Yasmine earned her trip to Japan with three other girls. Her overall time at Nationals was 1:08.47 and her 5K time was 18:49 after an 11:04 swim and 37 minutes, 33 seconds sprinting on a bicycle.

Past Performance: Yasmine qualified for the 2004 state meet at 3200 meters with a 10:50 PR. During the most recent cross country season, she won the D4 Stanford Invitational and finished 4th at Woodward Park in the state meet (18:31). In the postseason, she made third team All-Region at FootLocker West squeaking in at 23rd place. She also took 23rd in the Junior Women’s 6km 2005 USA Cross Country Championships in Vancouver, Washington, leading her 10 other Buffalo Chips teammates to the wire and finishing ahead of several collegians
