Welcome to the adidas Southern California Invitational – the cross country meet with the unique racing format! We are excited to have adidas returning as our event sponsor for 2003, and hope that you and your athletes will be in attendance to enjoy the benefits that adidas brings to SCI. The unique format is the centerpiece of adiSoCal: each team ranks their top seven athletes, and are pitted against runners from other schools of the same ranking. So, #1’s against #1’s, #2’s against #2’s, and so on, giving each athlete on your team a chance to be a race champion! All seven times are tallied to determine team champions for each the large and small school divisions. AdiSoCal also features a great course: the Guajome Regional Park course includes a grass start and finish, with equestrian dirt trails comprising the rest of the course. The challenging “double hill,” marking the end of the first mile, is repeated by the boys en route to their 3.2 mile run. The girls 2.4 mile course omits the second time up the hill, setting up a flat and fast last mile. Prized prizes: Large, custom medals are awarded to top finishers (10 for varsity races; 20 for JV and Novice races), as well as adidas shoes (1st), backpacks (2nd), and duffle bags (3rd). Team trophies are awarded for 1st-3rd in each varsity division, and 1st-2nd in JV and Novice divisions. Great competition is also a part of the SoCal tradition. Along with the best San Diego teams, Southern Section schools such as Barstow (2002 Champions), Claremont, Sultana, and Yucaipa have heightened the level of competition. While many look to the #1 runner varsity races for the best competition, it is most often in the later varsity races that team champions are determined.
