Celebrating Our Sixteenth Year - April 15, 2006

HP Logo

Hampton-Phillips
       Track and Field Classic
                     at San Jose City College

Co-Founders: Robert Poynter and Frank Slaton, Former Silver Creek High School Track & Field Coaches

Meet Director: Mike Dudley, Current San Jose City College Track Coach

Honorary Directors: Millard Hampton, 1976 Olympic Gold Medalist and Andre Phillips, 1988 Olympic Gold Medalist

It is that time again when Silver Creek High School holds its annual Hampton-Phillips Track and Field Meet on April 15, 2006. This will be the sixteenth year for the event, and it will be held at the world-class facility at San Jose City College.

Our previous meets have been extremely successful in involving young middle-and-high-school student athletes, as well as Special Olympians from within Santa Clara County, the Bay Area, Northern and Southern California, nearby states and even International teams. The Hampton-Phillips Classic has annually produced the best marks in the Central Coast Section and statewide, attracting perennial state powers such as J.W. North Riverside, Long Beach Wilson, James Logan of Union City and Merrill West of Tracy. We anticipate having as many as 100 high schools and up to 1500 athletes participating. There were 7,000 spectators in 2004. The event requires hundreds of volunteers and tremendous support by the community. It is also a source of pride for the City of San Jose.

Silver Creek is one of only eight high schools in the nation to produce two Olympians. Millard Hampton, a graduate of Silver Creek, won a Gold Medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in the 400-meter relay and a Silver Medal in the 200-meter dash. Andre Phillips, also a Silver Creek graduate, won a Gold Medal at the 1988 Olympic Games in the 400-meter hurdles. Both athletes graduated from Quimby Oak Middle School, Silver Creek High School, San Jose City College and UCLA.

Time schedule for all events will be posted as soon as they are available. Last years schedule of   events is not valid. We will update as soon as possible.

For any information in regards to participation in the Hampton-Phillips Classic please see Meet Information, or any other menu item to the left of this page.
