Palos Verdes Invitational Southern Section Saturday, October 15th, 2005
September 12 th, 2005 Dear Coach: We are pleased to invite your team to the return of the Palos Verdes Invitational on Saturday, October 15th. YES, WE KNOW THIS IS LATE NOTICE, BUT DON’T GIVE UP ON US YET… PLEASE KEEP READING! Perhaps you have not finalized your season schedule or maybe you would like to rethink it based on recent racing by your team. Either way, please consider the following. The Palos Verdes Invitational is unique for two reasons: we run a TWO MILE race in SEVEN SEPARATE VARSITY races. Here’s why you should send a team: 2 Miles . We don’t always race our primary distance in track, or at the world, open, or NCAA level in cross, so why would we want our kids to run 3 miles at every race? We have purposely selected our date one week in advance of Mt. SAC for this very reason. Separate Varsity Races . Each of your varsity athletes will have their own race against their counterparts from other schools. All 7 th boys race each other, all 6 th girls race each other, etc. This gives runners other than your star a chance to finish high up in the pack or even win an event. It also allows you the coach, as well as the spectators, to give full attention to EACH of your athletes. The format also builds greater interest and drama in the team competition as the leader board will likely change with each race. Afternoon Meet. Sleep in for once. Actually get more parents and families to the meet! Cool Temperatures . Our course is located 600 meters from the Pacific Ocean. Breezy and NO SMOG. PSAT Friendly . Meets on this date have always been bothersome for us because we lose kids to test taking. But no more! Your athletes can take the PSAT and still get to the meet on time. Spectator Friendly . 75% visible from one spot, hilly, Mt. SAC type course. Unusual awards. NOT the typical medal or mini-plastic-trophy-plaque. And finally: Enter MORE than one “varsity” . You can enter a “B” team in addition to your “A” team, or send another “varsity” squad if your “A” team is already committed to another meet! You could win the Orange County Champs AND the PV Invite on the same day! (Wow, what a program…) We’ve got about 20 teams already and we would love to see 40-50 the first year (makes each varsity race 50-60 kids.) So pick up the phone and give me a call to enter! Best wishes for a healthy and successful season, Jeff Atkinson Cross Country Invitational October 15, 2005 Entry Fees:
