Bay Area Distance Festival
Saturday, March 19, 2005 @ Piedmont HS

February 1, 2005

Dear Coach:

I would like to invite you and your distance runners to the seventh annual Bay Area Distance Festival. As its name suggests, this is a track meet dedicated to distance runners. It will feature races of 800, 1600 and 3200 meters. Runners of all ability levels are welcome as we will have multiple heats in each event.

In addition to the individual events, we will be running a co-ed 4x400 relay. Your relay team must consist of two boys and two girls - each runner must have participated in one of the individual races earlier in the meet. Order of the legs will be girl-girl-boy-boy. As an added bonus, we will have a coaches mile and one or two other surprises.

The meet will be held on Saturday, March 19th on the all-weather track at Piedmont High School. If past D Fests are any indication, this will be an excellent opportunity for your kids to post some good early season times.

Custom T-shirts will be awarded to the top two runners in each heat (top 4 in the fast heat). Members of the top three relay teams will also receive T-shirts.

The entry fee is $5.00 per athlete ($8.00 for each athlete you enter in more than one individual event). Heats will be seeded by athletes’ PRs and/or coach’s estimated time. So please be as accurate as you can with times you submit as we would like to have all the heats be competitive.

Enclosed are an approximate time schedule and entry procedures. Please note that entries and entry fees must be received by March 11th. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at 510-653-4692 or e-mail me at [email protected].

Also note that this year’s race schedule is a bit different from past years – instead of running all the heats of the 3200 at the end of the evening we will run the slower heats earlier in the meet. Hopefully the athletes and spectators will like the change.

I look forward to hearing from you. Best of luck this season

Doyle O’Regan
