"We're Off To Puerto Rico!"
     
  San Diego area's A.J. Acosta (El Camino HS, Oceanside) and
Los Angeles area's Elizabeth Olear have earned invitations to the
inaugural Caribbean Scholastic Invitational in Puerto Rico in July!
The Golden State duo are among 28 U.S. athletes selected for
the event, which is being coordinated by the National Scholastic
Sports Foundation. Congratulations both. Have plenty of fun!

"Sweet ... Fleet ('LEET) 16!"

Royal High's Michael Cybulski broke the state 3000m record
for 16-year-olds during his sensational two-mile run at the recent
Nike Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, NC. Cybulski was timed in
a fully automatic 8:15.67 for his 3k split to break the record and move
into second-place on the all-time age-16 U.S. list behind Oregon's
Galen Rupp (8:14.00 in 2003). Cybulski placed sixth in the race at
NON to earn All-America honors at two miles. He's back in 2007!

David Klech wins Gatorade's Annual
U.S. Track & Field Athlete of the Year award!

California High's David Klech beat out finalists from the other 49 states to win
the prestigious Gatorade Track and Field National Athlete of the Year Award!
Klech is among the finalists for the OVERALL Athlete of the Year Award as
he goes against top athletes in the other sports, with the winner to be named
on July 12th. Klech, the state record holder  in the 400m IH, will attend UCLA.
Mississippi HS sprinter Bianca Knight, also pictured above, was the girls winner!

USATF Junior Nationals
"Junior" is someone who is not 20 this year (born 1987 or later)
Meet is the qualifier for August's World Jr Champs in Beijing, China
There is a standard for that competition that must be met - if you
meet standard they usually take first two plus more speedsters
(100-200-400) for relays!
