File photo (left) and David Holland photo.
Perhaps US History's hottest prep distance runner as a senior
in 1995-96, Thousand Oaks' Kim Mortensen won the FootLocker
Nationals and later set nat'l 3200m record. But her super-hot
course record at Lake Casitas at the Ojai Invitational is now gone...
as frosh Jordan Hasay (right) smashes old record by 35 seconds!

Getting lost... to find the record!
Plus... Royal boys/Buchanan girls are unreal!

West Covina's Diego Mercado (#2251), seen above leading twin

Also, Royal boys AVERAGED 14:59.8 for its scoring five (!!!) and

This summer in my local South Bay (LA area) paper I read about 8th grade girl
named Kevyn Murphy who placed high nationally in life-guard competition. Combo
swim, run, and physical tests - I saw where she was going to compete in Cross-Country,
Water Polo, and Swimming at Mico HS - Nice I said, but geez----16:39 - WOW!!!
