Fresh newsmakers!

Adam McDonald, formerly of Canyon HS (SS), transferred to Utah
powerhouse Mountain View HS in the summertime and on
Wednesday won the state 5A Championship. His time of 15:34
was the fastest of the day by 22 seconds.  Adam led his mates
to the title and seem primed for NTN! Way to go, Adam!
At right, Santa Margarita senior Julian DeRubira rolled
to his SIXTH consecutive race victory at the Orange
County Championships. Check in on Friday for a short
profile on this quick-improving Southern Section star!

LAST WEEK!!
***2005 Orange County Championships***
Corona Del Mar girls ... 88:27 !!

Annie St. Geme's record run of 16:55 was further supported by a superb collective
effort from the newly-ranked top team in the nation on this day as Sarah Cummings (17:16)
Shelby Buckley (17:46). Alison Damon (18:08) Nichole Slykhous (18:22), Christie St. Geme (18:42)
and Alison Gushue (19:05) rolled to the finest performance ever on Orange County soil!

El Toro tops Valencia in boys thriller, 71-75!
Trabuco Hills/Dana Hills round out SCL romp!

El Toro's boys laid it all on the line and then some! The Chargers received
clutch efforts from their very deep squad to earn the boys team title in a
thriling see-saw affair (Valencia dominated early, El Toro surged into command
in the middle mile, and Valencia finished strongly to narrow the final gap) to seal
the victory. The Chargers even had frontrunner Anthony Masci buckle down to run
despite nursing a budding stress fracture in helping his team dig down deep!

St. Geme sets OC Champs record;
Santa Marg's DeRubira soars for Eagles!

Corona del Mar senior Annie St. Geme (pictured above with Coach Bill Sumner at left and
meet director Jeff Farr) continued her recent torrid clip, following up last weekend's big
Clovis Invitational breakthrough with a sensational meet record 16:55 victory at the Orange
County Championships! St. Geme even got lost late in the second mile before redirecting
herself into record land and a 6-second victory over Woodbridge's Christina Babcock in
leading CdM to the team title! Santa Margarita senior Julian DeRubira, running stronger
by the week as his recruiting stock continues to grow, used a late surge to overtake
Valencia's Josh Linnen en route to victory in 15:00! DeRubira's goal was to go sub-15:00,
and just missed there! He's currently looking at UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
and Columbia University as collegiate destinations. Any other college coaches wanna take
a closer look at this budding Southland star??? Stay tuned for more notes, quotes, pics!
