Allyson Felix takes Gold -

Two years ago Golden State Prep at LA Baptist
today World Champion at 200m - Allyson Felix (Kirby Lee)
Allyson Felix, women's 200
I feel I have more confidence and strength. I know I'm not the greatest starter and that I have a
lot of work to do there. I know that I'm strong. I really was thinking to stay relaxed and power home.
I knew they were out there (after the curve). I was thinking I didn't do that 600's and stuff for anything.
So, they had to pay off today. Looking at this race and how I came off the curve, I think I can be a lot better.
I think that now I'm pretty comfortable that I don't get out well and I think it's something I'm always working for.
But, I also know how to recover from it. I can come out in races like this and be comfortable and relax and
not let it overrun me. At my first World Championships, that's when I was taking in the whole
experience. I'm thinking my future is pretty bright. I'm going to keep trying to be humble and keep
on working hard.
WHO WOULD HAVE KNOWN?
You have come a long ways Allyson! I remember back in 2000 - US Jr Nationals
in Denton Texas - ninth grader Allyson Felix from LA Baptist had some local
success (7th State 200m - 23.90 best) and I was impressed to see her family send her
all the way
to the Jr
Nationals where she was a fine qualifier out of the heats, and
picked up
some
early valuable "national-level" experience with 8th in the finals

there,
added a win here at 23.81, with frosh Allyson Felix, probably the nation’s most improved sprinter from
the spring’s first dual meet until now, won over NCAA placers and State Champs with her 23.91 in
second (ed - talk about prophetic statements!), with five qualifiers here.

IAAF Statement on the Men's Decathlon
Friday 12 August 2005
Helsinki, Finland - The IAAF yesterday received information from members of the Finnish LOC
and Team Finland that two Czech athletes had received intravenous infusions from the
Czech team doctor immediately prior to the start of the Men’s 1500m in the Decathlon.
The matter was discussed by members of the IAAF Medical and Anti-Doping Commission
at a meeting yesterday evening and an IAAF investigation has been initiated.
Intravenous infusions are prohibited if they are intended to alter the integrity or validity of
an athlete’s sample.
Each of the athletes was tested following the end of the 1500m event. The results are not yet
known but the IAAF can confirm that neither sample was diluted.
(Ed note - Roman Sebrle of Czechoslovakia was second to Brian Clay in the event)
