#269 High School Boys 4x400 Ch
Round: 1 Heat: 1
Place Name Affiliation Time
1 Wolmer's Boys 3:12.07
2 Long Beach Poly 3:12.35
John Dye's Account:
Poly Long Beach CA and Dematha MD gave Jamaican champion Wolmer's Boys all they could handle, but Wolmer's held on to win in a photo finish with all three teams within 0.33 second -- Wolmer's 3:12.07, Poly 3:12.35 and Dematha 3:12.40. It was Poly anchor Bryshon Nellums who made the race. Getting the stick in third about 5 meters behind the leader, the brilliant sophomore passed Dematha, the fastest qualifier, in mid-stretch and just missed catching the winners. Wolmer's held the lead throughout, to the delight of the roaring Jamaican fans in attendance, except for Dematha getting in front for a few strides on the third leg - wow!!!
