Ex-J.W. North HS All-American Chaunte Howard (center) continues

Her sister-in-law, Hazel, also advanced - and accepted a marriage proposal in the athlete's interview area right afterward! Also, collegian Sanya Richards set an American Junior Record (50.22) in 400m qualifying!
  • The Bad: Former Olympian Suzy Powell (ex-Modesto HS), who was battling injury, placed sixth in the discus.
  • The Ugly: Marion Jones only lept 20-11.75 to place 7th while qualifying for the final in the women's long jump.
