CCS Pre-Track Meeting Minutes (as taken by Hank Lawson) 01/16/01

Qualifying from Leagues to Sub-Sections stays the same, however, League champs are no longer protected all seeding will be done based on the athletes mark (as is currently done in the field events).

A few teams moved from one league to another (as in Lynbrook & Milpitas case).

Sub-Sections are on 5/12 starting an hour earlier (12:00 Field, 1:00 Track) than last years times and are expected to be over by 6:00.

North meet is at Los Gatos (still w/o a Meet Director) and South is at Soquel.

Job responsibilities for North meet is Discus, TJ & HJ with each league also providing 2 people for the entire meet (4 folks total).

Although Steve Filios (past Meet Director) will be there on the day of the meet to help ensure that things run smoothly, he is no longer the Meet Director. Some pre-meet jobs that need to be handled are:

Pre-Meet material mail out

Officials (making sure the Leagues have covered their jobs and securing USATF officials ie, starter)

Meet seeding

Arrange Meet Timer

Names that came up as possible replacements were:

Rick Milam - Jim Hume - Brian Richter

And they will all be contacted by individuals that volunteered from the various leagues. Funding is available for this position as well as funding for the jobs that need to be completed. If you have any other names, Steve can be contacted at: (650) 968-1213 x255 or (650) 962-8603. Follow up on this issue was not discussed or identified.

There was discussion that some teams do not show up for their job assignments once we get past the League meets. Ideas were tossed around. One was to pay everyone that works the meet $50 a head. Another was to charge schools a deposit that they get back once they show up. The CCS is pushing the Leagues more to let them know who is not showing up to do their job responsibilities which they then take back to the schools AD. Nothing was decided.

CCS Semis & Finals will either be at SJCC (if their track is done on time) or Los Gatos. It is possible that the Semis may be at one location while the Finals are at another. Having the Finals be a night meet was very important to the Leagues. Ed. Since the meeting, I have heard the Foothill JC is getting a new track in March and that they have a legal Pole Vault pit (the main sticking point on what sites could be used).

The SCVAL is responsible for the HJ at both the Semis & Finals (section 10 of CCS By-Laws)

There was discussion to rotate job responsibilities on a yearly basis. Leagues seemed to be happy with the jobs they have and so the matter was then dropped. It was noted that if two leagues want to swap jobs, they may do so but the league shown in the By-Laws is the league responsible for that job.

If an athlete places in the Top 6 at the CCS Finals, they will be expected to IMMIDIATELY report to the awards area.

The States finals (June 1 & 2) are at Hughes Stadium in Sacramento, although a Meet Director has not yet been identified.

There was lots of discussion about why the Stanford Meet is not a CCS sanctioned meet as of today. You need to keep checking the Sanctioned Tournaments page at:

http://www.cifccs.org/toursanc/spring00-01.htm#TRACK & FIELD

to be sure the meet is sanction before competing at it. If the meet is NOT sanctioned - DON'T GO.

CCS Post will be attempting to rank, on a weekly basis, the Top 15 Boys & Girls Dual Meet teams. If you have any input, send to Dan Cruz. The intent is to get more exposure in the paper for Track & Field.
