Wednesday - Brewer, Smith end things with a bang; girls sprints live up to expectations

Ciarra Brewer CA (right, photo Cassandra Geiger) blasted a US#1 43-04.25 TJ (-0.9w), good for #7 all-time and #5 WY this year, while David Smith GA soared over a PR and US#4 7-02.50 to take the HJ and move up to WY#4

Ryan Crouser OR completed his throws double with a 207-09 victory with the 1.5kg youth discus - good for  2nd on the World Youth list and, like his shot Tuesday, thought to be the furthest throw ever by a US prep

Ashton Purvis CA, making her 2nd World Youth team, roared to a decisive 100/200 double, starting with an 11.61 (+0.0) 100 win, followed by a 23.38 200 (+0.2) triumph.  She is WY#1 and #3 in the two events.

NON champs Ebony Eutsey FL (400), Claudia Francis NY (800), and Chelsey Sveinsson TX (1500) each won their specialty against strong fields.

2008 World Junior team members Shanay Briscoe TX (HJ) and  Kori Carter CA (100H) join Purvis with the WJ/WY distinction in consecutive years.

Prezel Hardy TX, World Youth all-conditions #1, won the boys 100 in 10.48 (+1.4)

Tuesday - Crouser 70-08.50 with 11-lb ball; Wills' 3k and tough prelims top highlights

Soph Ryan Crouser OR (left, photo Walter Pinion) blasted a World Youth leading 70-08.50 (5kg/11 lb youth shot), also thought to be a USR with the rarely thrown implement.

Soph NON 2M runner-up Zack Wills OH cruised to an 8:27.19 victory in the 3000.  He already has a World Youth qualifier.

World Youth leader Alex Collatz took the discus in 152-00, but other field event finals took a New York flavor as Alec Faldermeyer (223-08) and Karen Henning (154-05) took the hammers, and Jen Clayton won the LJ on her last attempt with 19-07.50 (-0.5w).

Ashton Purvis CA and Briana Nelson SC led the loaded girls sprint prelims.  Purvis had the top marks in the 100 (11.65w) and 200 (23.78w), while Nelson paced all 400 girls at 53.81.  NON champ Claudia Francis led the girls 800 prelims with 2:09.23

Prezel Hardy TX led the 100 prelims with 10.68.

The first-ever same-year United States qualifying meet for the World Youth championships (athletes born in 1992 or 1993) will take place June 30-July 1 at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.  The first two finishers in each event, provided they have meet the IAAF World Youth Championship qualifying standard, will be placed in a pool and a team of 55 athletes will be chosen from that pool to compete in Italy, July 8-12.
