Mason Finley CO (photo at left by Joy Kamani, NationalScholastic.org) wins shot in USR (with Junior Weight implement) and Pan Am Jr record 66-09.75, for a DT/SP sweep, and new USRs in both

Alitta Boyd CA takes the LJ with a 19-11.50 into a 1.9 headwind, giving her gold and silver

Team USA's men
(Clayton Parros, Duane Walker, Joey Hughes and Tavaris Tate) rolled to an easy win in the 4x400 with 3:03.25

Team USA's women (Alishea Usery, Angele Cooper, Kellie Schueler, Diamond Richardson) outfought Jamaica in the 4x400, 3:36.34 to 3:37.65

William Wynne (U of Florida) takes 400H with teammate Reggie Wyatt CA 3rd at 50.61



Saturday - Goodman earns 2nd and 3rd Golds!  RESULTS, Full Highlights, Photos

World Junior leader Chalonda Goodman GA (photo at left by Joy Kamani, NationalScholastic.org) continued her long string of titles with a 23.08 200 finals victory (+1.3w), completing a 100/200 double; Tasha Allen WI 2nd 23.51

Curtis Beach NM finally pulled away from tough teammate Gray Horn, 7,377 to 6,982, in the decathlon.

Field event winners included Jack Whitt OK (17-00.75 PV) and Maya Pressley FL (5-09.25 HJ)

Sarah Andrews TX and Aisling Cuffe NY went 1-2 in the 5000 with 16:42.38 and 16:47.45

The Team USA women grabbed a 44.09 4x100 relay win, just 0.80 off the WJR, while the Team USA men closed out Day 2 with the 4x100 win in 39.06, just .40 off the WJR.

2008 WJ champ and WJ#1 Marquise Goodwin (Rowlett TX) suffered a tough upset LJ loss to Panama's Jhamal Bowen, 25-10.75 (+1.3w) to 25-09.25 (+1.2w).

WJ#2 and HS USR-setter Anna Jelmini (Shafter CA), lost for the first time this year in the DT, taking 2nd with 180-02.



Friday - USR, WJR for Wayne Davis II!!! - RESULTS, Full Highlights, Photos

Wayne Davis II NC (photo at right, Joy Kamani, NationalScholastic.org) scorched a USR 13.08 (+2.0) in the 110H final.  That tops both the auto-timed USR of 13.30 by Chris Nelloms in 1990 and is superior to Renaldo Nehemiah's 12.9h from 1977. It's also a WJR with 39" hurdles

Mason Finley CO crushed his own USR for the Junior weight discus with a 214-04 victory,

Anna Jelmini CA took the SP with 53-08.50

Chalonda Goodman GA blazed to a US#1 11.22 100 (+0.8), moving to #10 all-time.

Mac Fleet CA outsprinted Canadian Jeremy Rae in a taut 1500, 3:48.04-3:48.29, and Jordan Hasay (Mission Prep CA) reigned supreme over the women's 1500, winning in 4:26.26.

Friday A.M. preview
  • 3-time USR-setter Curtis Beach NM begins bid to win another decathlon title
  • In the 1500, three Team USA preps from the west coast - US#1s Jordan Hasay CA and Mac Fleet CA, as well as Taylor Wallace OR - will try and negotiate early morning start times in the final.  Fleet will battle Canadian star Jeremy Rae, among others.  Rae came to the USA to win the NSIC and Penn Relays miles this year
  • NON/NIN champ and US#1 Tavaris Tate MS will compete in the 400 semis
Friday P.M. preview
  • US#1 Wayne Davis NC will hope to win in front of family and friends in his family's home country, as he competes in the 110H semis and finals
  • US#1 Chalonda Goodman GA will shoot for gold in the 100 semis and finals
  • Prep shot/discus king and queen Mason Finley CO and Anna Jelmini CA will begin their bids for doubles as US#1 Finley battles the discus field and US#1 Jelmini takes on the shot competition.  It is Jelmini's last chance to break the USR in the shot.  Texas prep Matt Kosecki is also in the DT final
  • US#1 Sam Crouser OR and Matt Byers KS go for medals in the javelin
  • US#1 Shade Weygandt TX will shoot for the win and the USR in the pole vault
  • US#2 Alitta Boyd CA goes for the first of a hoped-for jumps double as the triple jump is contested
  • Tate hopes to run and win the 400 final after the morning semis
  • Beach completes Day 1 of the decathlon
