Summer running camps provide high school athletes with great opportunities, including the chance to improve their fitness, mentally prepare for another season and form friendships that will last a lifetime. DyeStat has compiled some 2008 camp experiences from around the country.

It motivated me to maintain determination for the upcoming season. I learned a lot about racing, nutrition, shoes, stride, and training that is going to better me as an individual and team runner. I had a great time and had the opportunity to meet many new runners of varying ages. Both the boy and girl runners that I spent time with has positive information to share and contribute about the sport. Overall, I had a very positive learning experience with the helpful and driven coaches and campers. I can’t wait to return next year!
Humboldt State University Running Camp
Allie, Bayside CA

How do you think your camp experience will benefit you during the fall season?
I think it turned me into a better leader, and hopefully will make cross country races feel much easier. As a group we ran across a canyon for the cross canyon 5k. our team’s time was 40 minutes, which I thought would have never been possible. I’ll end with the Tent 8 quote, “Cross canyon is nothing more than an attempt to overemphasize in order to trivialize every complaint you might have had about a cross country course.” – Harland Triarte.

Santa Barbara Cross Country and Track & Field Camp

The camp provided a great way to build up our mileage base, while also allowing our team to bond. I think the experience made us a stronger team, physically and mentally.
