SteveU's DyeStat  Boys XC Top 25
2008 Individual XC Rankings
By Steve Underwood

The annual DyeStat XC Top 25 series (formerly Foot Locker Favorites and renamed given additional options available now) are national and regional rankings of cross-country runners based on distance-running accomplishments to date, with an emphasis on XC and 3200/2M track results, rather than a projection of how the Foot Locker Finals or NXN Finals will turn out (predictions run later in the season). Early season rankings have significant basis in top returnees from last fall and those who made significant progress as distance runners in track.  As the season progresses, this season's XC results weigh continually heavier.

Youth Movement

  • Amazing sophs and frosh - Have 5 freshmen and sophomores (combined) ever ranked so high on a boys national list?  It's doubtful, even long before such lists were compiled.  With sophs Zach Wills OH and Joe Rosa NJ, and frosh Futsum Zeinasellassie IN all picking up big wins that built on earlier credentials, they made strong entres in the top 25, adding to TX soph Craig Lutz and IL frosh Lucas Verzbicas.
  • Steady at the top - The top 7 boys were virtually unchanged, either with solid wins or little action.  Doug Smith NJ will finally open this weekend and Chris Schwartz CA hasn't really been challenged yet.  Solomon Haile MD, however, had a big win at the Oatlands VA meet that moved him up to 7th.  A little further down, Joash Osoro ND moved up for his Griak MN victory and Reed Conner TX stayed unbeaten and passed some others who lost.
  • Big invite triumphs = newcomers down the list - Recent victories in major invitationals have propelled Jonathon Nelson UT (Firman), Walter Schafer CO (Stanford), Tim Freriks AZ (Nike Pre-Nats), Ben Dejarnette VA (McDonalds at Maymont), and Chris Stogsdill NY (McQuaid) into the bottom half of the rankings.
