SteveU's DyeStat  Boys XC Top 25
2008 Individual XC Rankings
By Steve Underwood

The annual DyeStat XC Top 25 series (formerly Foot Locker Favorites and renamed given additional options available now) are national and regional rankings of cross-country runners based on distance-running accomplishments to date, with an emphasis on XC and 3200/2M track results, rather than a projection of how the Foot Locker Finals or NXN Finals will turn out (predictions run later in the season). Early season rankings have significant basis in top returnees from last fall and those who made significant progress as distance runners in track.  As the season progresses, this season's XC results weigh continually heavier.

October 31, 2008 (rank through meets of Oct. 25)

Mt. SAC a revelation

Elias Gedyon CA makes it clear he's a national contender; Lord, Appel make big impacts
  • More than a middle distance guy - Elias Gedyon CA has already had an astonishing career as a middle distance runner; just a few in history have run the 800 in 9th grade faster than he did last year.  But he's also a good harrier - make that a VERY good harrier after he took the Team Sweeps at Mt. SAC and posted a time topped only by Trevor Dunbar AK and Chris Schwartz CA in the Individual Sweeps
  • The real deal - The aforementioned Dunbar and Schwartz also confirmed their talent in a big way, with their 1-2 finish at Mt. SAC.  They will definitely battle for a national title this fall.
  • Colorado story - 4A champ Joseph Manilafasha was best of the day at the big Colorado state meet, where three 2007 Foot Locker Finalists were competing, the most of any state.  Evan Appel also did well, repeating his 5A state title with a time 12 seconds off Manilafasha's.
  • Fastest in the country - Taylor Lord GA, considered the best in GA and a SE regional force, hit a US#1 14:43 at his county meet.  An early indicator of where he stands in the SE came at the Clara Bowl meet, where he was 2nd to Patrick McGregor AL. but beat Great American champ Billy Matthews TN.  Whether he can really compete with the best will reveal itself if Lord runs either NXN SE or Foot Locker South.
