BEN FURCHT
Lower Merion (Ardmore, Pa.) Senior

’08 XC: Rank-US Honorable Mention
10th FL Northeast, 11th 3A State, 1st Paul Short

Previous Foot Locker: none

Track PRs: 4:23.30, 9:22.62

Analysis: After disastrous last mile at state meet, rebounded to show his talents and make the squad … quite possible he can improve beyond what he did at FL Northeast, but top 15-20 will still be tough.

GEORGE GALASSO
Holmdel (N.J.) Senior

’08 XC: Rank-US Honorable Mention
9th FL Northeast, 7th NJ MOC, 8th Grp 3 State

Previous Foot Locker: none

Track PRs: 4:17.08 (2007), 9:20.63 (2007)

Analysis: Stunning improvement at end of season led to strong MOC and FL NE finish … will be challenge to break top 20, though.

PHIL GALEBACH
Medford (Ma.) Senior

’08 XC: Rank-US Honorable Mention
7th FL Northeast, 21st All-State D1, 1st Eastern Mass D1 (1st overall), 1st Manhattan ‘D’ (8th overall)

Previous Foot Locker: ’07-82nd NE, ’06-81st NE

Track PRs: 9:36.71

Analysis: Nice come-through after bad day at MA All-State meet … great races at Eastern Mass D1 and Manhattan … likely hopes for top 15-20.

SOLOMON HAILE
Sherwood (Sandy Spring, Md.) Senior

’08 XC: Rank-US#1
1st FL Northeast, 1st 4A State, 1st Manhattan ‘D’ (1st overall), 1st Oatlands Invite

Previous Foot Locker: none

Track PRs: 8:30.52, 9:07.66 (2-mile), 14:38.23

Analysis: The solid favorite after major wins, records and decisive FL NE victory … not excessively fast starter or finisher, but capable of pulling away midrace … marked improvement since last track season when he won NON and NIN 5Ks, but was not in ultra-elite overall.

BRETT JOHNSON

Ocean City (N.J.) Senior

’08 XC: Rank-US Honorable Mention
8th FL Northeast, 4th NJ MOC, 2nd Grp 3 State (2nd overall)

Previous Foot Locker: ’07-25th NE

Track PRs: 1:53.49, 3:53.23, 4:08.51 (mile)

Analysis: Unfortunately, a foot strain sustained during the NE race may sideline Johnson or at least hamper his efforts, but he has vowed to compete as long and hard as he can.

MICHAEL MOVERMAN
Oliver Ames (North Easton, Ma.) Senior

’08 XC: Rank-US Honorable Mention
6th FL Northeast, 1st All-State D2 (1st overall), 1st Eastern Mass D3 (3rd overall)

Previous Foot Locker: ’07-49th NE

Track PRs: 4:16.57

Analysis: Made a big jump up from his FL NE finish from last year … FL NE a good meet for MA public school athletes … probably top 15-20 is top potential.

ANDREW SPRINGER
Westerly (R.I.) Senior

’08 XC: Rank- US Honorable Mention
4th FL Northeast, 1st All-State, 3rd New Englands

Previous Foot Locker: none

Track PRs: 3:55.05, 4:12.94 (mile), 8:38.1, 9:14.96

Analysis: 1st season of XC has been a revelation after strong track career and soccer in the fall … super race at All-State, but beaten unexpectedly at New Englands … has talent for top 10-15 on a good day, but 15-20 may be more realistic.

TYLER UDLAND
Millburn (N.J.) Junior

’08 XC: Rank-US#9
2nd FL Northeast, 1st NJ MOC, 1st Grp 3 State (1st overall)

Previous Foot Locker: ’07-4th NE (soph race), ’06-41st NE (frosh race)

Track PRs: 4:22.74, 9:04.80

Analysis: After modest start to year, came on strong to confirm talent he showed as soph in winning MOC 3200 … he and Brian Shrader are likely best juniors in the country … good chance to finish at least 5th-8th.

JOE WHELAN
Hamburg (N.Y.) Senior

’08 XC: Rank-US#22
3rd FL Northeast, 1st Class A State

Previous Foot Locker: none

Track PRs: 9:15.92

Analysis: Bypassed Feds meet after winning Class A state meet … was clearly ready for Foot Locker, though … might be All-American candidate on right day.

PHILIP WOOD
Pennington School (Pennington, N.J.) Senior

’08 XC: Rank-US Honorable Mention
5th FL Northeast, 2nd NJISSA State ‘B’ (2nd overall)

Previous Foot Locker: ’07-65th NE

Track PRs: 4:17.39 (mile), 9:18.76

Analysis:  Took his game to a new level in making FL Finals … PA resident who boards in NJ … top 20 is good goal.
