| Curtis Beach runs away with title.
Local Albuquerque hero Curtis Beach took the lead in event 8 (pole vault), lost it in event 9 (javelin) and won it back big time in the 1500. Beach soared past the magic 7,000 point mark to win with 7185 points to Chase Dalton OR's 6988.
1500 - event 10: 3rd lead change in three events - Curtis Beach needed to win by 32 seconds to overcome Chase Dalton's 194-point lead; he won by 63 seconds, 4:14.08 to 5:17.93.
Jav - event 9: Chase Dalton in first
Tigard OR sr Chase Dalton, the nation's #2 javelin thrower, boomed a meet record 202-8 to move ahead of Curtis Beach after 9 events, 6527 to 6333.
PV - event 8: Curtis Beach takes the lead
Local favorite Curtis Beach, a sophomore at Albuquerque Academy, made a big move in pole vault to catch Day 1 record setter Andre McDonald. Beach vaulted 14-3.25 to McDonald's 11-11.75. After 8 events, the score was Beach 5934 and McDonald 5902.
Lurking in third was Chase Dalton OR 5762, who figures to make a big score in javelin as he is the nation's #2 ranking jav man. In fourth was another Albuquerque star, Daniel Gooris, with 5740 points after breaking the meet record with a vault of 16-2.75

in closing 800
Pearland TX jr Jessica Flax was in third place, 152 points behind the leader, before the closing event, the 800 meters. She needed to beat leader Samantha Collins by about 12 seconds to win. She beat her by 32 seconds for a 351-point swing to win with 4476 points.
Mindy Robins UT also gained big in the 800 to move up from fourth to second with 4334 points. Collins and previous runner-up Ashley Aitken AZ lagged through the entire 800 and finished 3rd and 4th overall with 4277 and 4212 points.
800 - After one lap, the leaders were Brianne Beemer CO, who won in 2:18.93; Jessica Flax TX, 2nd in 2:29.27; and Mindy Robins UT, 5th in 2:36.85 to move up to second overall.

when everyone else was finished in the pole vault. He ended at 16-2.75, a decathlon
meet record, and finished 4th overall.
