B-Distance Medley
La Sierra CA returned with the same line-up that took the previous night’s 4x800, and they again proved they are a mid-distance power to be reckoned with. The unassuming Knight twins opened and closed this effort, with Dylan running a very impressive 3:03.8 leadoff that saw him break clear of the field, and Spencer anchoring an unpressed 4:17.7, with a wide margin back to second. In between is when it got interesting. Jared Drinkard briefly surrendered La Sierra’s lead when Indian Hills NJ and Glendora CA charged past on the 400 leg. Drinkard hung in however, and his 53.1 delivered the baton to Steve Norton right in the mix. Norton, who dropped a PR 1:55 leg the previous night, repeated the feat here, PRing again with a 1:54.9 that gave Spencer Knight a sizable lead and plenty of breathing room. No one challenged after that, as Knight put it on cruise control and rolled out four focused laps for a 10:09.51 win.

G- Distance Medley
The opening stanza of the girls' distance medley established most of the key players right from the start. Leadoffs for Carlmont CA, Ramapo NJ and Corona del Mar CA jostled for the lead through three laps. Never far behind was Eleanor Roosevelt MD, maintaining close enough contact through the 1200 leg that 400 runner Doris Anyanwu could turn 4th into a tie for 1st with her 56.4 split. Ramapo edged ahead momentarily at the 800 exchange, but Roosevelt immediately regained the lead on the backstretch.
Corona del Mar's Hillary May pursued throughout the two laps, but was caught by Carlmont as Roosevelt anchor Marika Walker set off with what appeared to be a comfortable lead. From there, two compelling storylines played out. The first was Corona del Mar junior Shelby Buckley's dogged pursuit of Roosevelt's Walker, and the second was seeing how many teams Oak Ridge CA anchor Alex Kosinski could run down. Kosinski, who'd already run a stellar mile earlier in the night, took the baton waaaaay back in the field and started immediately clawing her way into contention. Walker and Buckley, both extremely capable milers themselves, were safely out of reach and free to wage the battle for the top slot up front.

"I really didn't think I could get [ER's Walker]," Buckley said afterwards. "I knew she would take off at the 4, but tried to take it to her because I knew she'd have a kick at the end. Then I saw my teammates and that kept me going."

With 600 meters to go, Buckley drew a bead on Walker's shoulder and gunned for the lead as they started into the final curve. From there she gapped Walker and pulled away down the homestretch into the celebratory embrace of her CdM teammates; meanwhile Kosinski was chewing up real estate and rival teams a few seconds back. Buckley's 4:50.2 anchor was enough to eke out a 11:41.28 win, with Walker (4:57.2) keeping Roosevelt close in 11:43.59. Kosinski brought her squad all the way up to third with her valiant run, clocking in at 11:57.07.

Corona del Mar's latest Arcadia win was the third in a row and the #6 US time ever, but only the second best on their school record board. They said after the race that they're looking forward to a rematch with Roosevelt at Nike Outdoor Nationals; a race, if it happens, that could bump both teams further up the all-time list.
