BOYS

 

Young Men’s Division

 

Finals

 

5,000 Meters

 

Michael Williams of Baylor took the early lead, but as the race developed Peter Falcon of Bellevue (Nb.) and Kevin Johnson of Falcon (Co.) made it a three person race at the half-way point.  Williams then pulled away to win in 15:10.31, with Falcon second in 15:17.49 and Johnson third at 15:33.76.

 

 

Triple Jump

 

William Claye of Mountain Pointe (Phoenix, Az./Do Right) took the lead after first round at 49-2 ¼ and held it until Omar Craddock of Killeen (Tx./Jump Corps) had a third-round jump of 49-11 ¾. Then in the sixth round, Claye took the lead back with at 51-6 ½. Craddock answered with an improvement, but it was not quit good enough at 50-11 ½. Lincoln Carr of Pine Forest (Fayetteville, N.C./Fayetteville Flyers) improved his personal best by more that two feet with a wind-aided 49-9 ¾. He did have a legal personal best of 48-10 ¾. Brian Schauldt of Timberhill Harriers had a personal wind-aided best of 47-11 ¼ in finishing fourth.

 

 

Shot Put

 

Junior Corey Jones of Boonville (Mo./T&F United), who has a best of 66-3 ¾, was an easy winner at 63-6. Sean Tabor of Norman (Ok.), another junior, was second at 60-2 ½ and Daniel Block of Lake Park (Roselle, Il.), a third junior, was third at 59-9 ½.

Heat Winners and Next Three Fastest Qualify For Final

   

      HEAT ONE (+1.7)—Fuquawn Green of New Bern (N.C./Eastern Track), running in lane eight, just ran completely away from the field clocking a personal best of 21.08. Fred Taylor of Team Missouri was a nonqualifying second in 21.85.

    HEAT TWO (+1.7)—Kevin Hobson of Seguin (Tx./Hallmark TC) moved passed Vernon George of Zion-Benton, Zion, Il./North Shore Breeze) in the final 30 meters, 21.69 to 21.84. George was later disqualified.

    HEAT THREE (+2.7)—Markus Henderson of Lewisville (Tx./Texas Xtreme), the state 5A champion at 20.80 and running in lane eight, dominated the field with a 21.37, but was later disqualified. Colton Dunn of Hockinson (Brush Prairie, Wa./PSA Youth) was the winner just edging Brijesh Lawrence of North Omaha (Nb.), 21.83 to 21.84.

    HEAT FOUR (+2.2)—Isaac Provitt of Rich Central (Olympia Fields, Il./O.F.F.) built a big lead over the first 130 and then saw Matthew Terrell of Davis (Indianapolis/Indiana Storm) and Christopher Herring of Knightdale (N.C./Track Eastern) close the margin.  But Provitt won, running 21.42 to Terrell’s 21.65 and Herring’s 21.66. Gavin Banks of Franklin (Elk Grove, Ca./Oakland PAL) also advanced at 21.80.

    HEAT FIVE (+1.6)—Sean Lange of Northeast (Florida Park, Fl./City of Lauderdale), who almost appears to be running backwards, won a close battle with Raymon Parker of Southwest Suburban, 21.82 to 21.84. Parker did not advance.

 

 

800 Meters

First Two in Each Heat Plus Next Two Fastest Qualify for Final

 

      HEAT ONE—Wesley Washington of Lancaster (Ca.), Aaron Adkins of Vegas Lightning, Joseph Dixon of the Spartans and Bryce Boxtell of San Miguel (Ca.) were single file and all within contact of one another after 400 meters. Anthony Hendrix of Eastern Carolina TC (N.C.P) was sitting in fourth after 600, took the lead into the final straightaway and had to hold off Bradley Whitley of Liberty Lake (Wa.), 1:57.28 to 1:57.57. Aaron Taylor of Hummingbird (Md.) was a nonqualifying third at 1:58.35.

     HEAT TWO—Donte Holland of Rancho Cucamonga (Ca.), Jeremy Webber of Zephers and Antonio Palmer of Gaithersburg (Md./Montgomery Village) had a three-meter lead at 400. Webber and Palmer took off and broke away from the field over the next 200 only to see Julian Parker of Catholic (Baton Rouge, La.), mover from sixth to first over the final 150 to take win in 1:55.14. Eric Gosset of Warren (San Antonio, Tx.) was second in 1:55.21 with Palmer third at 1:55.26 and Benjamin Schmitz of Kansas City (Mo.) fourth at 1:56.71 as all four advanced to the final.

     HEAT THREE—Edryse Kelly of Aurora (Co.) and Spencer Ferguson of  Smith Station (Smiths, Al.) took the lead at 200 only to see Jodale Burkley  of Skyline (Dallas, Tx./Texas Stars) and Giovanni Piccone of Roseville (Ca.) taking over at 400. Burkley and Sadiki White of New Jersey broke away from the field in the 200 and Burkley went on to win in 1:56.97. Moe Frisch of  Whitmer (Toledo, Oh.), who has run 1:52.35 in his State meet, make a long drive to grab the final qualifying spot from White, 1:57.36 to 1:58.59.  

 

Intermediate Division

3,000 Meters

 

      With one lap to go there were at least seven runners in contention. Matthew Jablonski (unat) took a 10-meter but then had to hold off the closing rush of  Nathan Williams, 9:00.74 to 9:01.04. Tyler Nelson of  Lone Tree (Co.) was third at 9:02.97 and Alexander Paul of Longmont (Co.) was fourth at 9:03.26. Many Horses from Montana, who came into the meet with a time of 10:47.34, won the “slow section” in 9:12.22.

 

Long Jump

 

      Daverior Hawkins of West Coast Gazelles has come out of almost nowhere to win with a legal 23-0 jump. Jordan Sampson of Track Houston was second in a wind-aided 22-05 ¾ and Zechariah McLaurin of Allegiance Athletic Club was third with a wind-legal 22-5 ¼.

 

Discus

 

      Brett Sharp of Pine Tree (Longview, Tx./East Texas TC) was the winner at 159-7. Cody Snyder of Andes Central (Lake Andes, S.D./Cornhuster Flyers, Nb.) was second at 155-1 and Jeremy Kline of Rockford (Mi.) was third at 147-8.

Heat Winners and Next Three Fastest Times Qualify For Final

  

    HEAT ONE (+1.8)—Michael Okoro of  Flying Aj’s was second going into the straightaway but then blew by Brandon Williams of  St. Edwards (Lakewood, Oh.) for an easy win, 21.80 to 22.23 as both advanced.

    HEAT TWO (+0.5)—Nycole Griffin of Benson Tech (Portland, Or./Allegiance A), running out of lane eight,  showed glimpses of real talent with an ever so easy looking 21.51.

    HEAT THREE (+2.4)—Favion Morse  of Montgomery Y led from the start winning in 22.03. Sean Sutton of Rockville Striders also advance with a 22.22.

    HEAT FOUR (+1.9)—Demari Boswell of Greensboro Blazers, took the lead off the curve and was an easy winner in 22.27.

    HEAT FIVE (+1.4)—Keenan Brock of  Club Elite of Birmingham built a big lead coming off the turn and had no trouble despite Anthony Riggins of  St. Patrick’s/St. Vincent’s, Napa, Ca./Vacaville PAL) closing a bit on the run to the finish, 21.96 to 22.25.

First Two in Each Heat Plus Next Two Fastest Qualify for Final.

 

     HEAT ONE—Erick Barraza of Zephrys opened up a big lead at 200 and still led at 400 but William Stovall of Texas Stars got himself back into contention. Coming off the final turn Kourtney Payne of  Texas Stars went from third to first over the final 100 to win in 1:59.92. Jered Kenney of Omaha (Nb.) was second at 2:00.88 and Alex Rhodes of  Farmington (N.M.) was third at 2:02.82.

      HEAT TWO—Elias Gedyon of Loyola (Los Angeles,Ca.) was out in 56.0 and cruised to an easy 1:55.76 win. William Stovall of  Texas Stars (Tx.) was an easy second in 1:59.22.

     HEAT THREE—Colin Best of Highlands Rancho (Co.), Shane O’Donnell of Colorado Springs (Co.) and Eddie Lanier of Houston (Tx.) passed 200, 400 and 600 in that order at 58.0 and 1:31.0 before William Henry of Trotwood-Madison Trotwood, Oh./Northwest TC) jumped the field and went on to win in 2:01.01; Lanier was second in 2:01.67 and Johnathan Jones of Houston (Tx.) was third at 2:02.95.  .

High Jump

 

       Javon Holt of Track Explosion, Evan Eggenberg of Kern Firefighters (Ca.) and Adam Augustyn of Valley United (San Fernando, Ca.), all jump 5-8 ¾ and finished in that order based on number of misses.

 

Javelin

 

     Derek Eager of Seatown (Seattle, Wa.) just edged Hovhannes Mekonyan of Greater Seattle (Wa.), 182-1 to 181-0. Joshua Cox of Peak Performance was third at 171-10.

Heat Winners and Next Three Fastest Qualify For Final

 

         HEAT ONE (nwi)—Izzy Garrison of Illinois just held off Blake Webb of Northwest Flyers, 22.64 to 22.69. Devin Barfield of Bellevue Breeze also advanced with a 23.21.

          HEAT TWO (+2.3)—Malcolm Brown of Tulsa Express, running with out blocks and after a false start, was a clear leader at the start and had not trouble winning in 22.82. He would appear to be ever better suited for the 400.

         HEAT THREE (+1.8)—Brandon Sanders of Palmetto Speed (Fl.), utilizing a compact and very efficient style to just eat the field alive running 22.09.

         HEAT FOUR (+1.8)—Deante Gray of C.L. Athletic Stars had the lead at 100 meters but was passed by Eric McDaniel of Southern California Running Cougars, who in turn was passed by Xavier Jones of Greensboro Champions, who won in 22.89. McDaniel also advanced with a 23.01.

      HEAT FIVE (+1.2)—Khalfani Muhammad, also of Southern California Running Cougars, led from the start winning in 22.93. 

 

 

800 Meters

First Two in Each Heat Plus Next Two Fastest Qualify For Final

 

     HEAT ONE—Jonathan Young of Lithonia (Ga.), James Muniz of Abilene (Tx.) and Termaine Harvey of Homestead (Fl.) passed 400 in 56.0. Muniz and Young  broke away from the field at 600 but Harvey made a late charge to just miss catching Muniz, 2:06.30 to 2:06.31. Young was third at 2:06.71.

     HEAT TWO—Terry Grigsby of Omaha (Nb.), Theodore Carter of Pleasanton (Ca.) and Kenja Hogan of Houston (Tx.) were the top three at 600 before Hogan moved to the front and win in 2:07.22. Carter was second at 2:07.48 and Grigsby was a nonqualifying third at 2:08.33.

     HEAT THREE—Gabriel Martell of Shooting Stars just held off Conner Smock of Lisbon (Ia.) for the win, 2:07.89 to 2:08.00. 

 

WOMEN

 

Young Women’s Division

Long Jump

 

     Andre Geubelle of  Curtis (Tacoma, Wa.) took the lead in the first round at 19-6 and Sonnisha Williams of Raines (Jacksonville, Fl.) moved into second with a second-round jump of 19-1 ¾. Karynn Dunn of Diamond Ranch (Pomona, Ca./Inland Empire Sprinters) then took over second in the third-round with a 19-4 ¾. The order for the to three did not in the final three rounds although Geubble improved to 19-8 ¼. Lauryn Newson of Pinole Valley (Pinole, Ca.), who just started jumjing the spring but had gotten out over 20-0 was fifth at 18-9 ½..  Among the eight finalist only Precious Selmon  if Crystal City (Mo.) had a legal jumps at 18-5 ¼ and 18-4 ½.

 

Shot Put

 

     Alyssa Hasslen of McMinnville (Or.) had a high school in-season best of just 42-9 but she seems to have found out something this summer improving to 44-10 ¾ in a USATF Assn. meet and winning here with a 48-2 effort to become the No. 11 putter in the nation for the season. Michelle Anumba of Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga, Ca./Inland Empire Sprinters) was just as successful as Hasslen improving from a 42-6 ¼ State meet second-place finish for a high school seasonal best to a 46-2 in finishing second at the JO Nationals. Kearsten Peoples of Ottawa (Ka.) was the State 4A champions and had a personal best of 49-10 but her third-place effort of 46-3 ½ was her second best meet of the season.

Heat Winners Plus Next Three Fastest Qualify For Final

 

     HEAT ONE (+1.3)—Jawanda King of Therrell (Atlanta, Ga./Sapphire) took the lead off the turn and was never seriously challenged in her 22.58 win.

    HEAT TWO (+1.0)—Lakeshia Williams of Ramsey, Birmingham, Al./Club Elite), won her  State 5A meet in 24.34 but has been making up for lost time this summer with Region VI personal best of 24.13 and now a 23.83 for another P

B in an easy win.

     HEAT THREE (+2.1)—Chalonda Goodman of Newnan (Ga./New Horizons) was well within herself, running just 24.22. Candace Jackson of Skyline (Dallas,Tx.) also advanced with a 24.38.

     HEAT FOUR (+1.9)—Amber Purvis of Benicia (Ca./Flying Jaguars) held the lead coming off the turn but she could not hold of Erica Alexander of Clear Brook (Friendswood, Tx./Texas Storm), 24.30 to 24.42. Serene Williams of Peoria (Az./Arizona Rising Suns) also advanced with a 24.43.

    HEAT FIVE (+1.3)—Victoria Jordan of Dunbar (Fort Worth, Tx./Dallas Gold) had no trouble winning with an almost effortless 24.11.     

 

800 Meters

First Two in Each Heat Qualify for Final

 

     HEAT ONE--Trishawn Battiste of Littleton (Co./Blasters) took a big lead through 400 passed in 65.0 and then had to Amber Key-Murphy of Lancaster (Tx.), 2:18.94 to 2:19.62.

     HEAT TWO—Victoria Gocht of Dresher (Pa.), Landon Wachter of Jackson (Mo.) and Brianna Hall of Nashville (Tn.) were close at 400 before Gocht move out to a lead and had to hold off Ashley Seymour of Archbishop Carroll (Washington DC) for the win, 2:16.55 to 2:17.60. Landon also advanced at 2:19.59 along with Ansherae Devine of Western (Las Vegas, Nv.) at 2:19.79.

    HEAT THREE—Regina George of Gordon Tech (Chicago, Il./Zephrys), Elizabeth Whitney of  Montgomery (Tx./Track Houston) and Ryanna Henderson of  Jacksonville (N.C./ Track Eastern Carolina) were the leaders at 400 before George and Henderson broke away at 600. Whitney then closed well to grab second behind George, 2:17.17 to 2:17.90.

Triple Jump

 

       Freshman Ciarra Brewer of James Logan (Union City, Ca./Mission Valley TC) improved on her national age-14 record of 41-3 set earlier this year with her winning 41-5 ½ but unfortunately it was aided by a 3.9 meter per second wind. For a mark to be wind-legal the wind can not exceed 2.0 meters per second. Alexis Hightower of Arlington (Houston, Tx./Texas Faces) was second at 40-11 and A’Lexis Brannon of Ozen (Beaumont, Tx./ Port Arthur TC) was third at 39-5 ¾. Hightower had the only legal jump over 37-6 at 40-9.

 

Discus

 

       Erica Brand of  Northwest (Shawnee Mission, Ka./Missouri Valley) was the winner at 133-5 just off her personal best of 134-9. Gabrielle Galvan of Lockhart (Tx.) was second at 131-7 and freshman Kelsey Card of Carlinville (Il.) was third at 138-9.

Heat Winners and Next Three Fastest Qualify For Final

 

     HEAT ONE (+1.5)—Akawkaw Ndipagbor of Poly (Long Beach, Ca./Together Elite) took the lead at the start and was never challenged.

     HEAT TWO (+1.6)—Tiffany Hines of Skyline (Dallas, Tx./Dallas Gold) also led her heat from start to finish running a personal best of 24.36. Zakiya Tyson of Jordan (Durham, N.C.) moved from third to second over the last 50 meters to nip Kenyattia Hackworth of Mobile Parks (Al.), 24.81 to 24.98.

    HEAT THREE (+1.5)—For the third straight heat the winner was never behind. This time it was Varonica Johnson of Myers Park (Charlotte, N.C./Quite Storm), who did have to contend with Taylor Houston of Elkins (Missouri City, Tx.), 24.07 to 24.31.

    HEAT FOUR (+1.8)—Ashley Collier of Dunbar (Fort Worth, Tx./Dallas Gold) run a great turn and was never challenged winning in 24.03. Alycia Prior of Mt. Zion (Jonesboro, Ga./World wide) also advanced with a 24.70.

    HEAT FIVE (+2.1)—Brianna Frazier of Raines (Jacksonville, Fl.) took a big lead off the turn and was never challenged winning in 24.62.     

 

800 Meters

First Two in Each Heat Plus Next Two Fastest Qualify For Final

 

     HEAT ONE—Phyllis Francis of McAuley, Brooklyn, N.Y./Team Evolution) was out quickly in 62.0 and was never seriously challenged winning in 2:13.89. Tia Gamble of DeSoto (Tx.) and Ellen Dougherty of East (Sioux City, Ia./ Iowa United) were a solid second and third in 2:15.30 and 2:18:08, respectively.

      HEAT TWO—Claudia Francis of Benjamin Cardozo (Oakland Gardens/Team Evolution) built a sizable lead with Margaret Francis of Rancho Cucamonga (Ca.) and Samantha Berggren of Mullen Prep (Denver, Co.). With 120 meters remaining, Berggren ran down C. Francis for the win, 2:15.89 to 2:18.75.

       HEAT THREE—Nia Fluker of Christway  Academy, Duncanville, Tx.), Deseree King of Temple Hills (Md.) and Elyse Wilkinson of Philadelphia separated from the field at 400 before Fluker opened up a sizable margin only to see King nip her at the finish, 2:14.10 to 2:14.40. Wilkinson also advanced in third at 2:17.68.

     Rosha Harris of the Los Angeles Jets was 115-6. Jeia Gilliam of the Wings (Dallas, Tx.) was second at 104-9 and Alyssa Dunn of Upper Room TC was third at 100-01.

Heat Winners Plus Next Three Fastest Qualify For Final

 

     HEAT ONE (+2.0)—Robin Reynolds of Northwest Express (Miami, Fl.) just continues to roll along with her second  win of the day, running an event-leading 24.51. GinAsia Hamilton of Flight TC passed Megan Paul of Waukegan Invaders (Wi.) in the final 10 meters as, both advanced at 24.94 and 24.96, respectively.

     HEAT TWO (+2.0)—Mayorca Young of My Stars TC just edged Joy Marbury of Club Elite, at the finish, 25.48 to 25.49. Marbury did not advance.

    HEAT THREE (+1.5)—Lateisha Philson of Ruff Kutz TC was another start to finish winner clocking 25.05.

      HEAT FOUR (+1.5)—Maya Brown of Los Angeles Jets held the lead coming off the turn but Bealoved Brown of Team Houston (Tx.) run her down, 25.06 to 25.21.

     HEAT FIVE (+1.3)—Aaliya Brown of Illinois Elite Youth, a first year Youth, pulled away after 80 meters and looked very impressive in running 24.94. 

 

800 Meters

First Two in Each Heat Plus Next Two Fastest Qualify For Final

 

      HEAT ONE—Lesley McKee of Jenks (Ok.) took the lead at 400 passed in 65.09 but Robin Reynolds of Northwest Express (Miami, Fl.) took over with 150 meters remaining and went on to win, 2:19.80 to 2:21.68. Chimere Ezujah of Carson (Ca.) also advanced at 2:22.18.

     HEAT TWO—Shaniece Prevot of DeSoto (Tx.) and Savannah Camacho of Paso Robles (Ca.) broke away at 400 with Prevot prevailing, 2:19.91 to 2:21.32. Nijae Jones of Castro Valley (Ca.) advanced in third at 2:23.15.

     HEAT THREE—Jade Dean of Do Right TC, Briana Adams of Desoto (Tx.) and Laura McDowell of Rancho Cucamonga (Ca.) were the top three at 400. McDowell then moved away almost effortlessly for the win in 2:17.38. Adams also advanced at 2:20.23.
