Friday, June 6, 2008
4:00 – 7:00 pm: Open Facilities
Athletes and coaches are invited to visit Warden Stadium at The First Academy to familiarize themselves with the facility prior to event day.
7:00 – 10:00 pm: Welcome Reception
Coaches, sponsors, officials and athletes are encouraged to attend a welcome reception at the host hotel – the LaQuinta Inn on International Drive. This provides an opportunity to meet the Golden South Executive Committee and officials, as well as the athletes and coaches who have traveled to compete. Golden South Hospitality Sponsor, Gooding’s Catering, will provide complimentary food and beverages. Sponsorship of the Welcome Reception event is still available. Saturday, June 7, 2008
9:00 am: Registration/Check-in opens. Practice permitted.
12:00 – 2:00 pm: Lunch Served in Hospitality Area
Hot, catered lunch is provided to our event sponsors, Executive Committee and meet officials, by our Hospitality Sponsor, Gooding’s Catering.
10:00 – 9:00 pm: Event Competition
High school age and prep division athletes compete against the event’s qualifying standards are eligible to compete against the nation’s best.
6:15 pm: Golden South Hall of Fame Awards Presentation
Each year the Golden South Executive Committee selects four individuals who exemplify the highest level of quality leadership in the track and field community. New for 2008, Golden South will recognize one Golden South meet official for his or her long-standing commitment to the event and donation of time in support of Arnold Palmer Hospital with the inaugural Phil Newlon**Award.
6:30 pm: Finals
Finals begin and are conducted on a rolling schedule.
Awards
Ceremony is held at the conclusion of the running finals and relay events with prizes provided by our Awards Sponsor.

** Phil Newlon was one of the founders of the Bert M. Warden’s Golden South Classic postseason track meet and served as the meet director for nine years. In his memory, founders of Golden South will annually recognize one meet official for his or her outstanding commitment and generosity.
