Team Champs:

  • 4A - Kodiak boys 45 over Service 56; West Anchorage girls 56 over Colony 93
  • 123A - Grace Christian boys 30 over Seward 85; Grace Christian girls 25 over Seward 58
Class 4A Highlights
  • Kodiak senior star Trevor Dunbar's 15:07.8 course record secured him his third straight 4A title and led his Kodiak teammates to their third straight team title, 45 points to runner-up Sevice's 56. South Anchorage's Aaron Fletcher was runner-up again with a 15:56 effort, while Dunbar's fellow bears Dylan Anthony (16:09) and Sam Salus (16:10) were third and fourth.
  • Also claiming her third-straight individual win was Juneau-Douglas jr Leah Francis, cruising to victory in 18:41. Soldotna's Bree Mucha (19:03) won the battle for second over Service's Esther Kennedy (19:07)
  • West Anchorage girls repeated as team champions, beating Colony 56 to 93 behind Letitia Luch's seventh-place finish and 4 runners in the top 15
Class 123A Highlights
  • Grace Christian boys and girls swept the team titles, the third win in a row for the Grace boys, while the girls ended a run of Seward titles on the 123A girls side.
  • Kenny Lake freshman Kailey Wilson won the girls individual race in 19:09, topping Seward's Allison Barnwell, runner-up in 19:23. Grace Christian's Holly Kopp (20:03) and Mariah Applegate (20:18) were third and fourth to lead their team to the top of the podium.
  • Grace Christian's Jacob Kirk ran 16:16 to win the boys individual title handily and front his squad to the win. Tyler Anderson of Anchorage Christian was second in 16:49

Defending 4A champs Trevor Dunbar (Kodiak sr) and Leah Francis (Juneau-Douglas jr) each go for their third individual titles in a row, and both look like solid bets to win. If anyone is going to challenge Dunbar's reign, it could be his own teammate, Sam Salus, or Anchorage South senior and '07 runner-up Aaron Fletcher. Dunbar and Salus figure prominently in the team battle as well, leading their Kodiak Bears against an upstart Service squad which has beaten them twice this season. Francis is the class of 4A on the girls side, but Skyview's Ivy O'Guinn, Service's Esther Kennedy and Soldotna frosh Bree Mucha could be left battling for the runner-up spot. The girls team title appears to be West Anchorage's to lose, as they go for a repeat of their 2007 triumph.

Grace Christian boys and girls look very strong in the 1-2-3A division, coming off sound victories in their Regional.
Kenny Lake freshman Kailey Wilson has been running very well and could be the one to beat in the 1-2-3A girls race, but Seward's Allison Barnwell and Grace Christian's Holly Kopp will be in the hunt. Kirk Jacob will look to lead his Grace Christian boys to the team title, with Cook Inlet Academy's Josh Holly a strong contender in 1-2-3A as well.
