Preview

Defending 4A champs Trevor Dunbar (Kodiak sr) and Leah Francis (Juneau-Douglas jr) each go for their third individual titles in a row, and both look like solid bets to win. If anyone is going to challenge Dunbar's reign, it could be his own teammate, Sam Salus, or Anchorage South senior and '07 runner-up Aaron Fletcher. Dunbar and Salus figure prominently in the team battle as well, leading their Kodiak Bears against an upstart Service squad which has beaten them twice this season. Francis is the class of 4A on the girls side, but Skyview's Ivy O'Guinn, Service's Esther Kennedy and Soldotna frosh Bree Mucha could be left battling for the runner-up spot. The girls team title appears to be West Anchorage's to lose, as they go for a repeat of their 2007 triumph.

Grace Christian boys and girls look very strong in the 1-2-3A division, coming off sound victories in their Regional.
Kenny Lake freshman Kailey Wilson has been running very well and could be the one to beat in the 1-2-3A girls race, but Seward's Allison Barnwell and Grace Christian's Holly Kopp will be in the hunt. Kirk Jacob will look to lead his Grace Christian boys to the team title, with Cook Inlet Academy's Josh Holly a strong contender in 1-2-3A as well.
