1. Crater OR—
Ran a mostly JV group in the unscored Phoenix 5k on 10/17.

2. North Central WA—
Wrapping up the Greater Spokane League season, North Central contested a three-way dual meet against Mt. Spokane and Lewis & Clark. Running without normal #2 Leon Dean (nursing a slightly sore hip) they still scored 19 points on Mt. Spokane and 16 on LC, with a 34-second split from 1-5 and a mere 12 seconds between their #2 and #5 runners.

Ran a predominantly JV crew at a Mount Hood Conference meet on 10/17.

4. Mead WA—
The Panthers closed out their 8-2 GSL season with wins over Shadle Park (19-44) and University High (15-50) in a three-way dual meet on 10/17. Regular top gun Kelly Lynch led the way in 16:15, and the next six were close behind, packing the entire top 7 into a 39-second compression.

5. Central Valley WA—
Like many of their future opponents, the Bears used the waning weeks of the league season to work on team tactics and pack running. At their GSL three-way dual with Rogers and East Valley they swept the top seven places and cruised to a slew of low-17 times lashed closely together.

The Crusaders used a dual meet with league opponent Beaverton to work on pack tactics, sweeping the top 7 places and jamming those seven runners between 16:23 and 16:30.

7. Seattle Prep WA—
With 6 in the top 10 and 7 in the top 16, Seattle Prep easily won the 10-team Metro League championships with 21 points to Bishop Blanchet’s 61. Charlie McDonald (16:07.90) fronted the Blue Train with his runner-up finish, with Erik Berg (16:11.80), Drew O'Donoghue-McDonald (16:12.30), and Andrew Walker (16:19.50) rounding out the top 5 individuals, and Nate Bannick (7th in 16:30.50) closing out Prep's scoring. Prep’s narrow spread (23 seconds from 1-5) again looked formidable.

9. Gig Harbor WA—
The Gig Harbor boys placed 6 in the top 15 of their 10-team Narrows League Championship meet for a 36-88 victory over North Kitsap. Miles Unterreiner led the way with his 15:21 winner, well up on the field, but the team averaged 16:14, with a slim 39-second spread from #2 to #6.

10. Snohomish WA—
Snohomish fell, 42-55, to a Lake Stevens team on the rise at the WESCO/Cascade Conference championships on 10/20. Snohomish managed to squeeze their entire top seven—separated by 50 seconds—into the top 21 of the race, but they couldn’t overcome the lead quartet for Lake Stevens, especially the 2-3 finish of Joey Bywater and Scott Larson.

1. Jesuit OR—
Like the Crusaders boys team, the girls of Jesuit used a midweek dual against leaguemates Beaverton to focus on team running and a tight pack. Freshman Payton Schutte led a clean sweep of the top seven places, with the top 4 only 5 seconds apart and 44 seconds separating #1 and #7.

2. Bozeman MT—
Heavily favored in the Montana AA state meet race, Bozeman showed why with a dominant victory that featured all 5 scorers in the top 10, 6 in the top 13, and 7 in the top 20. The 35 points they racked up was 4 points shy of the all-time state AA record for low score, held by Flathead’s 2001 squad. Super frosh Heidi Turner made it a Bozeman sweep of the AA individual titles, matching Alex Brekke's boys' victory with a 17:47 tour of the windy course that left second placer Keely West (CMR) well back in 18:13.

3. St. Mary’s OR—
Revving up for the post-season with the final MHC/PIL league meet, the Blues scored an impressive midweek win by dropping a 2-3-4-5-6 scoring effort, with top runner Alexandra Jones hitting a close runner-up finish in 18:35 and the trailing pack featuring a 37-second spread from #2 to #5.

4. Boise ID—
Despite strength-sapping mud and the absence of normal #3 Jacque Sahlberg (competing at the state soccer tournament), the Boise girls won the District III 5A championship with 44 points over Mountain View's 65. The Braves were led, as they have been most of the season, by Sarah Olson (2nd - 19:02) and Anne Lovelace (3rd - 19:05). The team averaged 19:41 behind Olson’s 19:02.

Newport easily took the KingCo 3A Championship on 10/18, wedging their top 5 into the first eight slots behind Jillian Altizer’s 19:28 winner, to score a low 22 points in the nine team field. Altizer was out a ways, but the gap from #2-5 is a mere 34 seconds.

10. Lake Stevens WA—


At the WESCO/Cascade Conference meet, Snohomish senior Ellie Bonner (2nd - 19:06) fronted Lake Stevens frosh Lacey Wagner (3rd - 19:11), and led her NW#6 Snohomish girls past NW#10 Lake Stevens, 41-68. Snohomish had a quartet in the top 10 and a fifth only 2 spots behind. Their 1-5 spread was only 48-seconds for 5k, with a #2-5 of a mere 16 seconds. Lake Stevens, who avenged a flighted meet loss to Monroe by beating them here, had three in before Snohomish’s second, but couldn’t match the strength of the Snohomish pack.

8. Eastlake WA—
9. Redmond WA—

A week after edging out Redmond at Beaver Lake Park, Eastlake again held off their rivals at the KingCo 4A Championships. Redmond's top two girls went 1-2 but couldn't hold off the superior pack of Eastlake, as the score ended up 42-54 in favor of the Wolves. Redmond's lead duo of Sarah Lord and Devin McMahon ran 18:07 and 18:11, with only one other girl breaking 19 minutes. Eastlake's quartet then squeezed themselves from sixth to ninth place, running 19:12-19:32. Eastlake's fifth runner, Megan Batty, finished just one second behind Redmond's third 19:36-19:37.
