Class 6A Highlights
  • Barlow sophomore Ryan Crouser hit a huge 66-01.25 state meet record (US #8) shot put for his second 6A state win in as many years, then returned to win the 6A discus with a heave of 183-02.
  • Nathan Mathabane (Lincoln sr) claimed the 3000m win with an 8:33.31, taking advantage of a comfortable pace until Sammy Kirtner (South Eugene sr) dropped the pace in the final laps; Kirtner held on for an 18 second personal best of 8:35.12 (NW #3)
  • Benson senior Kayla Smith starts her busy state meet weekend off with a state title in the long jump for her 19-00.50, and advancing to finals in the 100m dash, 200, dash and the 4x100m relay
  • David Douglas senior Zachary Abbott claimed first place in both wheelchair races, with a 15.96 in the 100m sprint distance and 4:01.40 in the 1500m race
  • Jared Hippler (Oregon City sr) cleared a new personal best height of 16-03.00 (NW #2) to win the pole vault; Sheldon sophomore J.J Juilfs was second with a 16-footer (NW #3)
  • Kelly Millager (Tualatin sr) cleared the 5-5 standards to lock in her high jump win
  • Jesuit sophomore star Annamarie Maag was the only girl to go under the 10-minute mark in the 3000m run (9:59.28); Lake Oswego junior Tate Murray worked her way into the top half of the Jesuit pack and finished second (10:10.32) ahead of senior Noelle VanRysselberghe (10:18.33) and sophomore Payton Schutte (10:21.96)
Class 5A Highlights
  • The boys 3k race turned into a battle between three, with Ashland junior Wilder Schaaf kicking hard for the 5A state meet record win of NW #4 8:42.17, Crater senior Zach Elliott a close second in 8:42.89 and Hermiston senior Jordan Ringe hanging on for his 8:44.36 third
  • Current NW #3 in the TJ Matson Hardie (Summit sr) hit a solid mark of 47-07.50 to claim gold in the triple jump competition
  • Josh Peck (Mazama jr) won the discus throw with a mark of 159-11.00
  • Kayleigh Tyerman (Crater sr) ran away from Kellie Foley (Crook County so) with about two and a half laps to go to earn her 3k gold in a time of 10:13.86; Foley finished second in 10:26.58
Class 4A Highlights
  • Phoenix senior Elliott Jantzer won the first running event final of the weekend earning his third consecutive 3000m state championship in a time of 8:43.40; Trevor Berrian (North Bend sr) held on to second place with an 8:48.38 finish
  • Multi-event star Dakotah Keys (Sweet Home jr) cleared 15-06.00 to win the pole vault, and led all 4A qualifiers in the 110H with a time of 14.66w (2.1)
  • Paul Gutzman (North Valley sr) pulled out the win with a late throw of 54-03.50
  • Cottage Grove junior Jordan Brunetti , owner of the curent NW #4 JT, sent the javelin soaring a distance of 138-07.00 for her JT title
  • Taylor Wallace (Henley sr) qualifed for the 400m finals in 59.01 before winning her third 3000m state title in what was essentially a solo run from the gun


Class 3A Highlights
  • Catlin Gabel senior Hayley Ney really running strong at the right time earned her a 4:40.80 (US #21, NW #5) 1500m championship and 10.33.72 3000m victory
  • Cole Watson (Rogue River jr) scored triple gold with a 50.57 400, 1:56.85 800m and 4:06.32 in the 1500m, to earn 3A male athlete of the meet honors.
  • Down to the wire, Kaylas Nagunst (Rainier jr) 400m first in 58.53, Emily Quatier (Westside Christian sr) 58.66; Nagunst also won the 800m in 2:17.97 
  • Cole Scherer (Bandon sr) pulled out the javelin throw win with his 189-11.0 effort to stay ahead of second place finisher Jimmy Cook (Grant Union sr)
  • Nyssa sophomore Victoria Rodriguez threw 40-8.00 to win the shot put competition
Class 2A Highlights
  • Culver senior Nevin Lewis showed sprint strength with first place finishes in the 100m dash (10.93), 200m dash (21.84), 400m dash (49.34), and a new state meet record of 21-11.75 in the long jump
  • Union senior Chris Fasel took 1500m first with his 4:11.90
  • Stephen Dickinson (Bonanza sr) finished first in the 110 hurdles (14.70), in the triple jump with a mark of 45-1.5, and again in the high jump with a height of 6-6.00 
  • Scio junior Coulter Mastenbroe takes the 300m hurdles in 39.00
  • Nathan Rowlett (Portland Christian) won the jav competition with a distance of 187-7.0
Class 1A Highlights
  • Damascus Christian senior standout Sean Lewis took home plenty of hardware with first place finishes in the 100m dash (11.03 state meet record), 200m dash (22.50), 110m hurdles (14.52) and the 300m hurdles (39.01)
  • Emily Funkhouser (Sherman sr) also grabbed four individual golds, crossing the line in 58.39 to seal up her state meet record 400m win, 45.46 to capture the 300m hurdles title, 26.74 in the 200 and 15.39 in the 100H.
  • Jacob Bowdoin (New Hope Christian sr) won the 1500m run in 4:10.39, with Southwest Christian senior Ben Bogart on his heels with a 4:10.71 finish
  • Portland Lutheran senior Abel Araya claimed his 3k win with a time of 8:56.80
