Boys
  • Led by the 5th-6th finish of Dart Schwarderer (16:24) and Scott Fauble (16:25), SW#2 Wheat Ridge cruised to the 5A title with 100 points, over unranked Arapahoe's 132. SW#6 Rampart finished a distant 8th, with 261pts.
  • Dakota Ridge jr and 2006 Foot Locker finalist Evan Appel was the 5A individual titlist, turning back Cherry Creek's Charles White 15:54 to 16:10, though White did front his Cherry Creek team to a third place finish overall.  Appel moved up from 3rd last year.
  • Fastest boys time of the day was turned in by Colorado Foot Locker contender Kevin Williams (D'Evelyn sr), moving up from 2nd last year and running away with the 4A boys race in 15:43.81.  Defending champ and 2006 Foot Locker Finalist Joseph Manilafasha was just 3rd in 16:40.
  • In the 4A team race, Battle Mountain placed their five among the top 20 scorers to record 55 points, defend their title and finish well clear of runner-up Liberty's 111.
  • Junior Andrew Roberts of Lyons (16:37) won the 3A individual title over soph Victor Montoya of Rocky Ford (16:49), but Montoya's team prevailed in a close battle over Roberts' squad, with Rocky Ford scoring 75 to Lyon's 87. Classical Academy was only two points back, with 89 points for third.
Girls
  • SW#4 Dakota Ridge placed 4 scorers in the top ten to lay down a stunning 28-87 defeat of SW#2 Fort Collins. Led by the 1-2 run of senior Alexa Rogers (18:41.06) and junior Kaitie Vanatta (18:48), Dakota Ridge dropped an impressive 19:18.61 average and a total time nearly three minutes faster than Fort Collins.  Vanatta, who was 4A champ by more than a minute last year for Ralston Valley, has only run a few races this year in coming back from a sitting out half the year due to her transfer and having missed training from a foot injury.
  • Dakota Ridge wasn't the only SW-ranked team to utilize a 1-2 finish to grab a state title; SW#5 Greeley West ran behind the top-two push of soph Erica Hinchcliffe (1st - 19:13) and junior Ashlee Smalley (2nd- 19:30) to turn back SW#10 Thompson Valley, 86-104.  Greeley West won with its typical #1, sr Kendra Gerk, coming back from a foot injury and taking 37th.
  • Classical Academy became the third team to ride an individual winner to a state trophy as they packed all four scorers (CO 3A scores 4) in the top 15 behind sophomore Kaitlin Hanenburg's sterling 18:42.82 tour of the course. Hanenberg's time was the second fastest of the day, only a tick slower than Alexa Rogers' 5A winner. The slim 22 points Classical Academy threw down were 55 clear of runner-up Peak to Peak's 77.
