SLUH, Rockwood Summit take large school team titles; Matt Schwab (FH North 16:09), Natalie Todd (Ladue 18:55) have day's fastest 5k's

First Capitol Invitational

HL # 5 St. Louis University High School (known locally as SLUH) opened up their at tough McNair Park in St. Charles with the First Capitol Invitational, bringing together many of the finest programs from the St. Louis region. The meet is run in two divisions, with Class 4 (largest in Missouri) in the White Division, and all others in the Blue Division. SLUH, second last year to Ft. Zumwalt South in the Missouri 4A state meet, edged Hickman of Columbia 63 to 67 for the team title in the White Division. DeSmet (St. Louis) was third with 98 points, while FZS, suffering graduation losses, fell to seventh. Matt Schwab of Francis Howell North ran strongly to edge Sam Masters (Hickman, Columbia) by a second for the individual crown 16:09 to 16:10 over 5k, with Nick Happe of Francis Howell North third at 16:26.

HL #10 Rockwood Summit, second in last year's Missouri 4A meet to Kansas City area power Liberty, scored a knockout in the girls White Division, scoring just 42 points to win. Rockwood Summit, placed four runners in the top ten, led by individual champ Aimee Bonte, who placed tenth in last years state meet. Bonte ran 19:03 over 5k to win the division by over a minute.

Ft. Zumwalt North won the boys Blue Division with 73 points, edging Festus on the sixth-runner tie-breaker. Deon Russell (17:01) and Cole Allison (17:03) led Festus with a 1-2 finish.

St. Genevieve (fourth in last years 3A state meet) won the girls team crown with 73 points, edging Ladue's 76. Natalie Todd (Ladue) ran the day's fastest 5k (18:55) to shade last year's 3A state runner-up Alyssa Allison (Festus 19:18) for the individual title.
