Marley Crusch led the Manhattan girls to a solid victory at the season opening Manhattan Invitational.  Crusch ran 14:45 for 4k over the rugged hills of Warner Park, running away from Michaela Reynolds (Emporia, 2nd 14:57).  Manhattan, top-ranked in Kansas in pre-season polls, and 6A runner-up in 2006, packed five runners in the top sixteen to score 39 points.  Free State (Lawrence), led by Kyra Kilwein (3rd, 15:36)  was second with 60, with Seaman (Topeka) third with 85.  Caroline Hale (Shawnee Heights, Topeka 15:48) and Erica Testa (Junction City, 15;59) completed the top five on the girls side.

Emporia's boys packed three runners into the top five, then held off a tightly packed Manhattan team to triumph with 57 points to the Indians 69.  Junction City was third with 90 points.  Dylan Hedges (Lawrence 16:43) edged Asher Delmott (Emporia 16;45) for the win.  Brian Hageman (Washburn Rural, Topeka) was third at 16:59, just ahead of Mike Robinson (Emporia 16:59), with Logan Sloan (Free State, Lawrence) fifth at 17:02
