Greg Wilson Aquinas Classic
Lee's Summit North MO girls packed four runners into the top ten to win the Greg Wilson Classic, while Shawnee Mission Northwest boys continued their dominate running, putting the first three runners across the line to lead to their victory. The meet was hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas, at Johnson County Community College's The meet featured many of the top schools in the Kansas City area, running over JCCC's rolling course on a perfect morning for running. The summer heat wave broke at least for a few days, giving runners a much needed break.
Allie Marquis (Shawnee Mission East) won the girls varsity division with a time of 15:24 over the quick 4k course, pulling away from the Shawnee Mission Northwest duo of Lisa Imgrund (15:31) and Christine Nelson (15:46). They were followed by the Lee's Summit North's Maddy Bush (15:54), with Erin Beck of Blue Valley North fifth (15:58). Lee's Summit's North Cody Fritchie 16:01, Ashley Mark (16:16), and Rachel Carpino (16:17) followed in 6-8 to clinch the Bronco's victory. Melissa Fuerst (16:25) and Lauren Renfrow (16:26) finished out the girls top ten.
Lee's Summit North won the title with 47 points, followed by a well packed Blue Valley North squad (67). Shawnee Mission East (102) edged Shawnee Mission Northwest (107) for third.
Heartland #10 Shawnee Mission Northwest looked very strong, scoring 39 points for an easy team win. Rockhurst (Kansas City MO) was second with 77 points, while host Aquinas (93) edged Blue Springs MO (95) for third. Diego Ladron (15:57 5k), Daniel Munro (16:03) and Keaton Jones (16:08) went 1-2-3 for SMNW. Kyle Hanson led Aquinas in fourth (16:11), with Bill Martin (SM West 16:19) fifth. Phillip Hickman ( Blue Springs, 16:22 6th), Travis Boyett (SM West, 16;23 7th); Alex Hendee (SM North, 16:23, 8th), Evan Daugherty (Rockhurst 16:29, 9th) and Matt Stokes (Blue Springs, 16:30, 10th) finished out the top ten.
