The Kansas Shrine Bowl Football game this year featured a new addition with the first Kansas All-Star 5K, featuring All-Star teams picked by the Kansas Cross Country and Track Coaches Association.  Due to KSHSAA rules, only graduated seniors are allowed to compete in "All Star" competitions.   The teams spent Friday participating in team activities at Emporia State University.  The race and game are benefit for the Shriner's Burn hospitals.

In the boys race, Scott City's Trace Kendrick dominated, roaring to a 15:29.68 win.  Kendrick had dominated the 3A scene during the 2007-08 school year, winning the 3A state cross country title and three track titles.  Colin Hagan of Kapaun Mt. Carmel in Wichita was second at 15:50.05, with Josh Baden of Colby, a frequent rival of Kendrick, giving Northwest Kansas two of the top three with a 15:57.30 finish.  The Western boys dominated the team competition, winning 33-81 in seven deep scoring.

Emilee Morris of Hutchinson won a big victory with a 19:03.59 run.  Morris had swept the 5A 800/1600 in last spring's state meet.  Annie Martin (Riley Country), the 3A state XC champion was second in 19:16.10 with 4A XC champ Heather Garcia (Baldwin) 19:35.09.  In the team race, the East girls edged the West 46-64.
